ON Few questions, planning to buy 2006.

Hey guys, I'm hopping to be getting an RX-8 in the next few weeks and got a few questions.

First off I've been looking at both Shinka and GT models. If I were to get a GT it would be Red with the two tone interior.

The Shinka on the other hand has me a second guessing myself so I hope I can get some insight. My main concern is the feel of the seats, they just seem out of place to me having cream seats in a Burgundy car. How to you guys like the feel of the half leather half alacantra?

Just seems strange that they too away leather for the special model of the car.

Thanks a lot for any advice

I hate leather seats, which is one of the many reasons I went with the sport model and got cloth seats.

The main issue people seem to have with alcantara seats is that they wear out quicker than the leather. It is a more grippy fabric though so should keep you planted in the seat better than the full leather would. I don't have any person experience with these seats though, just what I have read.

Everyone has its own opinions about leather seats. My Mazda 6i has leather seats with heated seats on it, and its worth it, specially in colder days (makes your butt heat up...lol).

Anyway, i have the cloth seats in my rx8 and its comfortable as well (minus the heated seats).

Depends on your uses. If it's just gonna be a daily driver I would shoot for the leather all the way. Cloth seats are nice too but leather just makes the car look better in general. It's all a matter of preference.

I agree leather does look better than cloth. Cloth feel kind of cheap because they are not powered on either side.

Monchie there are no cold days in Vegas.

You made sure to get a compression test done, right? Get one done and post the results here, you need to be told the kpa/psi + the rpm of the starter.

If the engine is bad or on its way out chances are they wont cover it under the 8yr/100k warranty unless you have prior service records.

Yes he did a compression test not long ago, I'll ask him for the sheet, but he's kept up with services, he just had the coils, plugs etc changed.

Thanks for the threads, I have been doing research but this is definitely helpful.

Forgot to mention the car started fine, and drove well had good pickup, no stalls.

The driver new what needed to be done to the car to keep it in good shape.

Just post what the sheet says when you can.

Did you start the car and then drive it around and get it nice and hot, then turn to off and try to start it again? Some people swear their car has great power and pickup until they get a new engine installed and they see what it was missing.

You might be right and he has taken perfect care of the car, you never know. Another good way to see how he cares for it is to check the oil level and see if its low or not.

Ya I started the car, started fine, about as quick as my other cars at home. Drove it around seems to drive fine. I didn't try to start it after though but no puttering when I came to a stop.

Forgot to mention I took a look at a few RX-8's and this one drove just like the others even though it has the highest mileage.

When I went to see the cars I pretended that I didn't know anything about them and this guy basically went over everything already posted in the forum.

Ok, got the compression test is 115 psi on both rotors with the engine warm.

I believe the compression on a new engine is 120 right?

The acceptable range of compression @ 250 RPM as follows:

KPA:
830 standard
680 minimum
150 diff / chamber
100 diff / rotors

Kg F / cm^2:
8.5 standard
6.9 minimum
1.5 diff / chamber
1 diff / rotors

PSI:
120 standard
98.6 minimum
21.8 diff / chamber
14.5 diff / rotors

Remember values need to be normalized for 250 rpm.

Aright, I'll look over the paperwork when I meet with him. But 115 sounds good right?

Should be fine unless the starter was spinning at a crazy high rpm. Still need the rpm to get an accurate number.

I will check it out tomorrow. When I started the car for the test drive it seem to spin fine but not quicker than other rx-8's.

Very excited to get my rx8
