Do I need to order?

better yet, should I?

I am getting VERY serious about purchasing an '05 and I was just wondering if I should order one or see if the dealer can track down the exact configuration I'm looking for. (I'm in Southern CA)

'05 Brilliant Black M/T
Black / Red interior
Navigation System
GT package
Appearance Package
Rotary Accents
Mazdaspeed Spoiler

Also, are there any advantages to ordering one?
The only I can come up with is that it probably hasn't been abused by some sales guys during a test drive...

Any advice would be extremely appreciated.
THANKS in advance, you guys (and girls) ROCK!

You can go to the Mazda website and build one with the options you want, then look to see which dealership(s) have one that matches. I believe you can also search inventories of each dealer.

Also, the accents and MS spoiler can be bought separately at lower prices than most dealers. Check some vendors here - they have prices other dealerships can't match.

I'm sure you can walk onto most lots and find that car. Dealers tend to stock cars with more options that way if you come in looking for a base model they can say "well here is the same car with the 6 disc changer and a spoiler for just $1000 more"

Since your looking for a fully loaded 8 I doubt you'll have trouble. You'd have much more problems trying to find one without all that.

Wow, those were some quick responses!

8is>enuff: Wow, there's my car! It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine...
You must have been really bored... :-)

MrMethane, I think you're right about findind the fully loaded ones. I just did a search and came up with a decent amount of dealerships that claim to have what i'm looking for. Thanks.

Just another random question: If I choose not to get the 6 disc changer, does that mean I automatically get the mp3 capable player? I plan on gettting the bose, just in case that makes a difference...

Maybe it's a dealer accessory. Probably the only way you can get it.

It's my understanding that the MP3 player goes UNDER the volume **** and the 6CD (or single CD) player goes above. Not sure though, no MP3 player for me.

And if you can't find the MP3 player online, buy it from a forum vendor. It'll be cheaper.

I swear I don't get kick-backs :D

I went ahead and posted this same question in the Audio / Electronics forum so we'll see what happens.

Yeah if it comes down to it, I'll just order it from a forum vendor.

I think you are referring to the minidisK player. The MP3 player is the same as a single-cd player except it has a chip which allows the use of mp3 cds. It actually replaces the single-cd unit and the units look exactly the same. You can add the little panel that says mp3 player though. On the 04's it was an option/dealer installed accessory... not too sure about the 2005s.

Get one that is on the dealer's lots. You'll have more bargaining power.

Well, back to the original topic...

I went down to my nearby Mazda dealership on Satuday and I got some bad news...

There is apparently only ONE RX8 in the whole state of CA that matched my criteria! I don't know about you guys, but I'm finding that a bit difficult to believe.

Think I might end up having to order one after all.

A close friend of mine is a Finance Manager @ a Ford dealership so I am going to have him look into it for me.

The self imposed goal is to make a deal on a new RX in the next 30 days.

Tick tock, tick tock...

I'll keep everyone posted

You were looking for:

'05 Brilliant Black M/T
Black / Red interior
Navigation System
GT package
Appearance Package
Rotary Accents
Mazdaspeed Spoiler

You know the last 3 can be added later, right? I would think a black GT w/NAV should be easy to find, a little harder to get the black/red interior - but I would think not that hard. Then add the other items yourself later or have the dealer install them as accessories.

Sounds like BS, they're probaby just trying to get you to settle for one off the lot. Tell them that you only want the car with these exact option and that if they don't have it they need to get it. They can order you one, but you might have to wait a month or two. Just don't let them tell you it will cost more to order one, thats complete crap, it doesn't cost them anything more.

I'm not surprised. I couldn't find my vehicle in any of the western states. Selection is getting depleted since there haven't been any RX8's produced since mid-December (see other threads re: the Mazda Plant fire).

I'm specifically looking for:
- Black exterior
- Black/Red interior
- *no* appearance package or spoiler
- GT package
- NAV system

....not a single vehicle in stock matching that criteria when I was searching mid-January thru mid-February. So I put in a factory order.

It appears Mazda didn't re-start production in mid-February like they said they would either, they show zero cars produced for January and February.

With the 1-2 month lag between production and delivery to dealers, it appears dealer inventory just started taking the big hit this month.

GT will come with Bose audio including CD player. You can swap (accessory) the CD player for EITHER an MP3 player or 6 disc cd changer.

The inventory in California seems to be okay, since I am seeing RX8 ads in the newspapers and on tv again.

Many of the GTs may come from the factory with the appearance package and spoilers.

Have you considered going with the touring package and aftermarket leather?

I think the red/black interior is the deal killer. The two tones don't seem to sell very well and most dealers don't seem to order them. If you would settle for a black leather interior would could probably find a car a LOT easier.

Also, most of the left over 04s are loaded up cars and I have seen a lot of dealers NOT order loaded cars (like with a $2k NAV option) this time around. They seem to have a hard time moving the $35k MSRP cars so are not ordering any/many of them now (plus they could always get a Shinka for 05).

If you want red/black bad enough, you can always get one someplace else. I have purchase 3 cars remote (2 of them sight-unseen) and used car haulers to bring them to me. Or you can fly out and drive it back. The cost per mile for an open haul actually goes down with distance, since once they have it loaded up not much extra to take it a few more miles.

GT also includes heated seats. I'm hooked on having the heated seats in my other vehicle.

Appearance Package is a port-installed option btw, not factory (oh okay, I'll stop nit-picking). But yeah, they seem to be in the habit of loading all the extra port-installed options when they order the vehicles with GT.

UPDATE: I just got an email from my dealer rep, my new vehicle has just been assigned a VIN number at the Mazda factory and has been placed on the production line. Looks like things are finally moving on the RX8 production front. Perhaps another reason why they resumed the RX8 advertising.

Kind of ironic that the red/black interior does not sell well, given that was what put getting the car over the top for us. Love the black with the red/black interior.

Yeah, our dealer had at least half of their inventory in the red/black scheme.

Those are the ones that sold out first, all they have is black-interior vehicles now.

Oh well, it's all down to personal taste. One person's tuxedo is another person's monkey suit.

I think all black is the "safer" choice for the dealers. Most folks would not walk away from the all black interior car, but some might walk away from the black/red or black/brown interiors. As is pointed out, some folks only want the two tone interior.

Boiler, I couldn't agree with you more! When I first saw that black / red interior I remember thinking:

"It will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine..."

Insisting on the two tone interior IS going to make it a bit more difficult to find the vehicle I want but in the long run I know I know that I'll be happier. I've waited over a year for this vehicle, what's another month or two?
