Hey guys, got a question regarding a situation I am having with the mileage of an Rx-8 R3. The Carfax report says the car has about 33K miles on it, but the dealer says that was a mistake, it only has 23K. He couldn't look at the car for me (I was talking to him on the phone...5 states away) because it was being shipped off to be auctioned. The salesman said he is trying to get the car back so he can verify the actual mileage, since I said I was seriously interested. It is an '09 and they are retailing it for 10K off the MSRP. I'd like to believe the guy, but does Carfax make mistakes. And if not, then why would they make the car so cheap?

I'd appreciate any opinions and advice.

 

Yes, people make mistakes, including Carfax.

Of course the car dealer could be wrong too.

MSRP's irrelevant in this instance of a high mile R3.

I can't remember exactly the deals people here got, but let's say brand new '09s for $7K off sticker, then I'd much rather take that than a measly $3K more for that many miles.
