Angry disappointed in dealers

I was surprised with how the Mazda dealerships around here treated me. One guy laughed at me when I told him what I was interested in and said, "you and 50 other people".That was Tom Masano in Reading, PA. He never called me back. Another in Allentown told me to bring $1,000 and I could be 7 on a list to see them as they came in. I returned to the first dealer, different sales guy, and put money down on a red manual gt. Went down a week later with a male friend, and he wouldn't even speak to me. He did ofcourse stare at my chest plenty, but he talked to my friend even though I was buying the car. Then he told me there was a problem and he had sold me one that was already sold. But I could take delivery a month later on a blue one with the sport package. I canceled that last week, and he just called me to say that I should be able to get my deposit back. But interestingly enough, the person buying the first red gt that I also bought backed out. So it's mine if I want it. Right.
Finally found a dealer that wanted my business last monday, (Wright's in Hazleton). The same car, red gt, came in on wednesday and I picked it up Friday. I was getting used to the whole run around I'd been going through, even though it's in front of my house, I still can't believe I finally have it.
I don't know if it was because I'm so young or a girl or what, but I couldn't get over how badly I was treated at these dealerships.

i'm 19 and i've had no probs with my dealership other than they don't know crap, hell everytime i go in there they're asking me questions about the car, but when i wanted to test drive a demo model, the only thing they asked is how long's it gonna take you to get here

rx8grl, welcome to the forum and sorry you had such a hard time. If you prowl around here a bit you will find all kinds of crummy experiences with dealers (plus a few good ones.) I don't know why these dregs seem to gravitate towards the car industry. I would agree being young and female is "two strikes" against you in many cases; as you saw they wouldn't take you seriously. Here in the forum, I don't think anyone will razz you about your femininity but a bunch of us old-timers give the youngsters hell in that they haven't "done their time" to deserve such a nice car as the 8. It's all in fun and don't let it get to you. Now, go back outside and admire your new car some more.

Hi rx8grl & welcome!

I think another factor to consider is how big are the dealerships you visited? If they have low volume Mazda sales, it might actually be tough for them to get their hands on an 8 or they may only be assigned a very limited quantity. However, this does not excuse their rude behavior to you.

This will probably be an entertaining read for you, now that you're no longer dealing with dealers....

Sometimes dealers are jerks... when i bought my Jeep I only wanted certian options... the dealer i was at said he look for them and call me back... he never did. But i found one i wanted. It was fun going back when he thought i would take one off his lot. I had fun pointing out my loaded one in the parking. lot... once you get your visit the sales people that didn't respect you as a customer and show them the comission they lost....

I'm in the midst of reading this column, on part 7 of 8. It's a hoot and a real revelation into the murky world of car salesmen. If they **** you off, all you gotta remember is that whatever you do for a living is 99% likely better than what they do. Pity the poor souls.
