Unhappy Disappointed...

... But not with the car. I stopped by Magnussen Ford in Newark, CA to see if they had an RX-8. Sure enough, they did! I was thrilled, and even tolerated the uninterested salesman types to get a better look. I sat in it, tested out the seats, back and front, and admired it for a while. As I was getting ready to leave, I asked if they were adding a markup.

The guy said, "Oh yeah. Fourty."

In disbelief I ask, "Fourty thousand??" to which he says
"Yeah, these are great cars". I laugh in his face and wish
him luck. :<

These greedy SOBs are going to ruin Mazda by f!($ng up the RX-8 just like Mazda F*@d up the '7.

Guess the '8 is off my list.. and as a die-hard long-time rotorhead, that's really tough to say. At $27k, I can imagine affording it in a year or so.. at $40k.. well.. at least there will be yuppies out there to buy it 'at any cost'. :<

Shop around. The majority of dealers are not marking up the price at all, from what I've heard. You can also order it online for MSRP straight from Mazda.

Don't let one dealer spoil it for you. There are plenty out there.

Search the messages here for other dealer info - you can get sticker or under.

Maggnussen's fleet guy is offering sticker on the phone.

I bought from Menlo for sticker (actually a tad under, but the delta is so small as to not be important execpt to say that I ended up under sticker.

Sunnyvale Mazda's sales manager has told me he's sold em under sticker too. Sales mgr is Kevin at SV Mazda.

Putnam has $8k markup on the window, but another thread said the fleet mgr was under sticker.

I had a written, refundable depo deal at Diablo for sticker - this over the phone before I took the depo to them. They were totally no hassle - call Mike Bradley there if interested.

I've had 3 other dealers (Almaden, Oak tree and the one in SF - forgot their name) call me this week trying to get me to come in and see the cars - seems like they are trolling for customers - and I haven't seen any long lines of buyers at a dealer...

In short, ignore the particular sales guy you talked to.

Dealer paint protectants are useless and are pure profit for the dealer - their cost is perhaps $5, $10 tops.

Haven't you ever seen the movie Fargo? Tell them you don't want, and will not pay for, the "TruCoat." :D

Take my advise do not pay over sticker. You can find a Dealer that won't mark the car up. The car is in demand and salesman are hungry to sell them because they make a good commission.
I am a gsm at a mazda dealership and we still have 20 presold
rx8's all at sticker and thats it. Good luck to you, If you need any advice please feel free to contact me.
