It's f***ing excellent!

Got mine on Friday and have just come back from a 3 day weekend around the mountains South of Tokyo (Izu peninsula). Awesome!

I've put 500km on the clock - will do another 600 next weekend to get through the break-in period. The red-line is 7000 during break-in of the high power motor but I haven't taken it past 6k yet. After the first 1000km you pit stop for an oil change and then change the oil every 3000km after that.

I'll post my thoughts on different pieces in other threads. Unfortunately I can't post any pics yet as the PSU on my PC has died so I'm doing all this from work (where I can't plug my camera in).

Nobody should be disappointed... just hang on in there - it's well worth it!

Don't worry East Moon - I'll take the heat from you now! I know you must be tired! Once Yuhki gets his let's meet up for a drive.

I get so much attention every time I park that I need to build more time into my journey plans!

I'm British and speak Japanese very badly! So I can't post or read any of the Japanese RX-8 forums. We have to rely on East Moon and Yuhki for that.

Congrates JSG!
WooH! 7000 rpm during break-in for the high power version, that's a very high rpm allowed to break-in a car.

Can't wait to see your picture of your new found love!

Terrific news JSG. ENJOY!

As I said to EAST MOON, any test results published
on full production cars very much appreciated.

EG: R & T said "fit and finish" an 8 vs. Infiniti G35 Coupe at 9.
Also they reported "Ride" same no.'s.

I am most interested in "quietness" at idle and various rpm's.

I'm sure we can also find a place to host avi/mpeg videos also.

Congrats JSG!

Thumbs up

Just wanted to say thanks for all the detailed first impression/follow-up posts. It really sounds like you're calling it as you see it. And the comparisons to the S2000 are really helpful.

what's with the oil change every 3000km's? That is a bit low to change the oil...most of us ordinary folk will be changing oil every 2 months.....or am I missing something?

depends more on how much you drive it as opposed to how long the oil is in there (unless it's a REALLY long time).

Very happy for you JSG, just want mine now:D

Cheers
Oilman

PS. What is the boot like? Practical?

Oil

For people like me that do 15000 miles a year that would mean 7 garage visits !!

Is this 3000km oil change really true ??

...maybe 3000mi/5000km??

it may also be the case that JSG is just that fanatical about oil changing

Man, I hope the 3000 km oil change interval is incorrect. I do that distance every two weeks. 26 oil changes at 7 qts each. Sheesh. That is like, $420 a year. I doubt the the 3000 km is Mazda recommended.

change the oil yourself, it's fairly easy...maybe you already know this, but there's this company called Fumoto that makes valves to replace your oil drainage screw...you just flip the switch and out comes the oil...i'm really hoping they made it easy to change the oil and oil filter on the RX, i don't want to pay double the money to change my oil, plus i use synthetic

Yeah, I'm out here colonising. It's not very PC these days but there as still some of us reaching out to expand the empire by stealth! :D

I also obviously fund the local oil industry via my 3000km changes! I'm just following what the dealer told me - it might be different for you. It takes a long time out here to do 3000km so it's not a big deal for me.

Forgot to mention the boot - again it depends where you come from. From an S2000 it's got acres of space! At the weekend I filled it up with a collapsable baby bed, a rucksack and a large soft sports bag + a variety of thrown in things like cameras and shoes. The access hole is a little small but once your through that it goes back a long way. The "deeper" part behind the plate is not half as deep as what I was expecting from the pictures. Some of you may have to buy new luggage but if you have soft bags then no probs.
