Debating Here.
Im soon about to buy my first Car.Currently iam Looking Into a 05 RX8 GT.
I understand that a sports car wouldnt be good for a first car but Im just stubborn. But anyway Im curious to know exactly what to look for in this type of car before I buy it.?
I also have read about its unique rotary engine&this has gotten me into the 8's even more Id say.(Prepared to do what is needed)
any advice? (do's&donts?) from your personal Perspectives

make sure it has maint records. stick to 1 owners. if he says he babied it and never drove it hard, stay away.
this car needs to be red lined everyday it is driven.
make sure all the TSB recalls are done.
check the oil dipstick and oil cap, if you see sludge, walk away.
look under the car to see if any1 ever hopped a curb.
thats all i can think of at the moment. as far as buying tips go.

I just thought at first that 04-05 models were the ones to avoid. My main concern is just buying this car and having engine trouble.

The engines are warrantied for 8 years and 100,000 miles. If you want to be on the safe side, find one that has an extended warranty or a dealer that will give you a deal which includes one.

You will find many of us on here with 2004-2005 RX8's that don't have any problems. You can also find people with 2009 R3's that have problems. Technically, the 04-05 models are the first revision of the car. Many people will stay away from that and will get a new revision HOPING they fixed the major issues. There are a ton of TSB's and an 8yr/100K mile warranty on the engine. The 06 and up have some of the same issues.
IMHO, read the stickies on the site, get familiar with the problems people have, figure out if you can handle performing the DIY on this site, then make a decision. If you have no mechanical aptitude and are not willing to try, I would say stay away since you will pay an arm and a leg to get things fixed from the dealer. The RX8 is a lot of fun and will be much more forgiving then any other sports car.
