Dealer Fees

What has been everyone's luck with this? They seem to vary quite a lot. The one I'm looking at wants $200 for "paperwork and detailing". I thought every car has to be detailed anyway. Paperwork does not include registration, I'll do that on my own.

I'm thinking of asking for tinted windows or something extra for these fees. I've heard of some people paying $300-$750 for fees, what the heck can they include for that much $ that's not already a given.

it's pure profit for the dealers these 'processing fees' are. I think a give-and-take like tint may be a good bargaining trick

good luck

p.s. I had my processing fee waived off because I bought it under S-Plan :D

Wait a second, S-plan includes waiving that processing fee? Holy crap, thanks dude, that's my argument right there, I have S-Plan but I'm going to try to beat it by $500 or I told them I'd wait for an '06 (giving up the $1000 financing too) if they don't make the deal worth it. They better bite this one. :D

ah, but there is a caveat to the S-plan fee-waiving: as of June 2004, the processing-waiving on the S-plan is at the DISCRETION of the dealership :o

my dealership was nice enough to waive it, YMMV, good luck :o

BS junk fees. If I were purchasing, I'd tell them to lower the price of the car by that amount if they insist on charging them or else go to another dealer.

When I bought the 8, the dealer was so adamant that they could not eliminate their fee (it was preprinted on the form!) ($799 no less!) that's exactly what I told them to do. And they wonder why people hate car dealers.

I got jigged on one of my earlier car purchases with these dealer fees. The dealer told me that it was STATE LAW that they had to have those fees. When I found out I was chumped, I promised myself I would never pay them again. When I bought my 8, they FED ME THE SAME LINE (new state!). We had already settled on the price and had done the paper work. After a long debate between me and the manager and the manager with someone in the back room, they told me that the fee was non-negotiable. I got up, thanked them and walked out of the office. The fee became immediately negotiable and, in fact, disappeared. (I read in someones post the phrase "stealerships." Aint that the troot!)
