Dealer Deception?

I am buying a GT package and the dealer had one but it had a spoiler and I didn't want that. Anyway he said he would do a dealer trade for me to get one without a spoiler. So I called up today since I am picking the car up friday, to get the VIN number. I said let me check the dealer inventory on the mazda website to see if I can find my VIN. Sure enough I did and its the one at my dealership that had a spoiler, apparently they must have taken it off...Is that possible without leaving marks?...should I demand they do a dealer trade and get me one that never had a spoiler?

It's possible that they could of just switched trunk lids with another 8 of the same color.

I personally do not think it's a big deal to demand a trade, but it's your call.

i truly am not sure but put some of that plastic wrap for left overs on your fingers and see if you can feel where the holes are and if you cant no 1 else can so what does it matter also check the trunk and make sure the top of it "on the inside" is in place and not loose

there would be holes to fill and paint which would cost them more than it is worth. changing the trunk lid is an option- i switched lids with another8owner. it was quick and easy for the most part. lining them back up right so that the gaps were equal took a couple of minutes but no biggy. of course the other answer is that they already set up the swap and the website is just a reflection of that.

I don't think I would worry about a trunk swap either as long as the paint matched perfectly.

Thats what I am worried about, will the paint match up perfectly? I'm also not to happy that they went behind my back and switched trunks when I was told they were going to do a dealer trade.

The paint should match. He did do a dealer trade. He traded one trunk lid for another The paint on the bolts of the lid would be another tell tale sign of the alleged swap.

I wouldn't cry foul over the dealer trading out a trunk lid. You can walk away from this deal up till the point when you sign the contract. All that matters is that the VIN number of the car you buy matches a car that meets your specifications for appearance, paint match, etc.

This reaction seems a tad paranoid. Inspect the car in different lighting conditions (floursecent is great for showing weird paint mismatches). If you're happy, sign the papers.

As the Rolling Stones said...
