Buying an '05 - price?

Hey everyone, new to the forums really, been lurking for a week or more. Hadn't registered yet since I've only test-driven an 8 (granted that's still the case but I'd like some advice)

So I've been having rotary dreams waiting and waiting until I can get financially sorted out to buying my new 2005 RX-8...but now time is approaching when the '06's will be released.

Do any of you think it would be best to wait for dealer's to get to the point where they're trying to get rid of all their 05 stock in order to make room for the 06's? When do you think this would be? early/late August? September even?

I'd like to get my RX-8 now but if I can save another 5k or something by waiting 2-4 weeks, I would probably do so.

i'd say don't wait around. i just bought my 05' only because the 06's won't come out till november , because a factory suppling parts for the rx8 burnt down. thus the production of the 06's are delayed and so the 05's won't go on sale till early 2006.

Where is this information about the 06's delay from? I was led to believe the 06 would be released on schedule in late aug or early sept!

There was a plant fire...but they resumed production in march, as reported to dealers, and through Automotive News.

You can do under invoice now (maybe $500?) and then get $1k in MAC finance money. Before the final money on the 04 models they had more money on them, up to $3,250 depending on region - then Mazda gave the dealers $4k. The serious money started around the first of this year with the $4k hitting in April (I think) ? The prior heavy incentives were mostly tied to MAC loans with high rates - but you can always refinance.

Anyway, you can see that waiting is not going to net you a TON for money. If you want the cheapest price now, find one of the remaining new 04s on the lot and score it for $4-5k under invoice. Not a lot to choose from, but still some out there.

Also, with the attractive 2yr lease promo MAC ran last month and again this month, you can do the lease with $2k in MAC money. I posted in another thread how it is CHEAPER to lease then buy your car now, than to just buy it (due to the extra $1k in MAC money and 2.7% rate).

None of us has a crystal ball so we don't know what Mazda will do, but based on last year they will put money on the unsold cars in steps. How long you wait is up to you, how much you will save is just a guess.

Does anyone know if the Gerber rebate can be used with a lease?

With the $2K off for a lease and $500 Gerber, that's only $1500 away from the discount on the '04's, and a portion of that is probably made up in resale value if you plan to sell in the next few years, or if you were going to buy '05 keys for your '04 anyway

Yep, I used mine - but I had the "Real" Gerber card to give the dealer. They asked for it and would not accept the copies I had prepared.

I have high-rez scans of the front and back if you want to try to print your own :D

With the cheap lease rate, discount from the dealer, Gerber and MAC money it was a sweet deal.

I did. In fact, I went in with the email (and no actual flyer) the day after the documents were signed and the dealer was only too happy to redraw the docs to include the Gerber rebate. I went in with it afterwards because I wasn't sure that I was going to get the email - I had tried about a week earlier with my Yahoo address and it didn't come and I tried again with my ISP address and it took a couple of days.

Thanks for the info, though I'm not sure about this Gerber/MAC rebates y'all are talking about and if they only apply to leasing. I'm financing. I also qualify for the S-Plan so I'll be using that 1.8-2k off the invoice.

Another thing I just found out, I went up to the dealership to show my wife the inside of the RX-8 and whatnot... come to find out that all the MT's have been recalled (he thinks it's to update the computer chip to prevent people flooding the engine before starting) and he won't know for sure what's going on with them until tomorrow.

I think you will find the "S" plan price is over invoice, and without the "S" plan you can get one UNDER invoice. I don't think it is $2k off of invoice.

If you lease you can get $2k in MAC rebates, finance with MAC and get $1k.

so I spoke with the dealer today, turns out all of their 8's are group 1 and need repairs...

however, there's a 'group 2' 8 that I want (already inspected/flashed) - Titanium grey, Touring package, MT, (spoiler added) - is at a dealer about 250 miles away and they're willing to go get it, etc. by monday.

The price he quoted me at first was 31,189.88 out the door (including the spoiler) using S-Plan pricing...then I can get another 1k off the invoice (28,255 w/ s-plan, bringing it down to 27,255 after 1k off) if I use their AVP contract (24 mo. "balloon" contract at a low rate, basically a lease but in my name and I *could* refinance the next day through my bank)

so what do y'all think about the price? seems a tad high to me, but I just want my car

edit: out the door with the 1k off through AVP comes out to be 30,108.35

dude, seems ok.. I paid close to sticker price for my Shinka. I think if you can get it below invoice you're doing very well. Some people here might think otherwise but I think in the end if you feel right about the price then go for it.

Thumbs up waiting

we signed papers on thursday 7-14-05 to come back on friday to get the car....
there is a recall for some 05 rx 8 that the recall will not happen close to august. the dealership is hillard mazda in ft worth . they put my wife in a white 05 rx 8 till this happens, SO if you buy ask about the recall , we could have waited .

do you guys think the employee discount will be over by aug 1st because when i trade my 2005 chevy colorado reg. cab truck i want to get the 8 but they only wanted 10,000 and i owned 18,000 i got the truck before the discount was relase
so i'm asking 16,000 for the truck trade-in after the discount is done. and another question i read the online dealer detail about the 8 is there a 197hp and a 238hp?
thanks
