You're exactly right - not all will give a good price online or at all. However, you only want to buy one car so you only need one in WA or OR to give you a good deal. Hang in there, keep looking, don't settle and don't give up.

 

Can anyone say when the uber rebates started on the 2004s? I found the $4,000 off invoice in September, 2005 and the dealer threw in dealer-cash too without explanation. No one ever called it anything, not a named rebate program like MAC, S-Plan, Zoom-Zoom, Gerber, First-Time-Buyer, Year-End-Closeout or New-College-Grad. I expect it's sort of a Year-End-Closeout taken to the extreme.

September is long way away. Did anyone hear of such uber deep discounts on the 2004s earlier than September?

 

How did you find out that Mazda has no new rebates for December?

 

Like you, I am also waiting for December incentives. I wonder if your dealer has told you the facts. I just got on edumnds.com and all rebates and incentives are off the web site for RX-8. But, I am not convinced that this means that there are no incentives. This is December 1 and so we may be overanxious in our wait. I'd give it a day or two. If we must wait, the fact is that there are quite a few 2005 RX-8s in stock at various dealerships and they are not moving. I have been keeping tabs on dealer inventories and most if not all of the 2005 RX-8s have been in stock for months! There will come a time when Mazda will have to bring an incentive to move this old stock before the 2006 models start arriving and cluttering up dealer showrooms. I am sure that Mazda is aware that if a dealer has several 2005 RX-8s in stock in January or February, the 2006 RX-8s will not move until the 2005 stock is depleted. Given that there are no differences between the 2005 and 2006 RX-8s (except for two color changes) and given that the recent sales history has been dismal for RX-8s, there is no impetus for a new RX-8 buyer to buy a 2006 when so many 2005s are still in stock. Granted that Mazda has not raised prices on the 2006s. But if the 2005s remain, they grow older and the dealer's costs pile up to keep the stock on hand. I am surprised that Mazda has not joined the incentive competition initiated by Toyota and Honda. If we must wait, we must.

 

I just checked with a Spokane Mazda dealer and with Edmunds.com and the incentives and marketing support have been extended from November to December unchanged: $1,000 MAC incentive and $1,500 dealer support.

 

Hermanrulez: I have been following this string for quite some time and wanted to reinforce that patience is a virtue when it comes to buying a car. I just bought a white, 2005 RX-8, touring and appearance packages, MSRP $31,580 for $25,688. I think that $6,000 under MSRP is a good deal. Where patience and persistence come in: by keeping track of inventory, I knew that this car was on the delaer's lot since mid-summer. With the snow falling this month, I figured that the dealer would be eager to get rid of the car, and they were. I also knew the invoice costs for the car as equiped and factored in rebates, holdback, dealer profit, made an offer and bought the thing. Finally, much to my great surprise, I happened upon a very reasonable saleperson that worked with me every step of the way. Bottom line, though, is that I was not desperate to buy the car and was willing to wait the dealer out. I guess that the dealer realized that they either sold it to me or they risked holding onto the car for months waiting for spring and all the while accumulating interest on the car as the model year slipped into the past. So, pateince and persistence do pay off. Keep at it. There are lots of RX-8s in inventory and the dealers are becoming increasingly anxious to clear 2005 inventory in advance of 2006 deliveries.
