Best way to buy?

Im new to this site so I apologize if this has been beaten to death already.

I am looking to buy a new rx8 here in Oregon, but upon contacting all the Mazda dealers in the state it appears that they do not have any RX8's in the White Pearl. I pretty much have made up my mind this is the color I want, and was wondering if anyone knew they best way to find out were I can find out who has 06 rx8's in white, or if there is some way to order one directly from Mazda?

This will be my first new car, so I am a little green on the purchasing process.

You can go to mazdas site and search dealer inventory. It limits you to 150 mile radius around the city you enter to search, but you can narrow the search by color, and it shows all equipment on the car (unlike auto trader). I have found white to be somewhat rare in cali, particulary in non GT trims. Good luck.

Yea the guy at the dealer told me they could take a basic model and add on some of the additional stuff like the appearence package if need be. They have the exact model I want in other colors, just sort of hard to pay that much money unless your getting exactly what you want. Ill try the Mazda site once it comes back online.

I have a 06 BB and have been a fan of the white too.
I know getting an 8 is probably first and foremost on your
mind. If at all possible, try to be patient until a GT turns up.... It's difficult I know
but in the long run you'll be happier if you don't "settle" for something less then
you really desire.

Sorry. I'm an old guy (52) and sometimes tend to give unwanted advice...
I wish you luck.

No all advice is very much wanted. I just know how many dealerships will try and hustle someone into something that is not exactly what they want but close. I know I woulld be happy with a color like grey. But I just know that white is what i prefer.

I wish there was a way to just order a car from Mazda and pay for the destination fee etc. I found a few 6speed whites, but they have the shinka package, and I am just looked for cloth interior (not a big fan of leather). And I dont need navigation or a 6disc changer or any of that stuff.

Ive seen some people talk about ordering through a dealership, is that possible?

Every dealer will try to hustle a customer into buying something they have in stock.

You can't order one directly from Mazda, but you can order exactly what you want through a dealer. You may not get the same deal as if you bought from stock, and you'll have to wait, but if color (and not getting stuff you don't want) is important, go for it. FWIW, not getting stuff you don't want can be a bigger saving than getting a super deal on something overloaded.

I don't buy new cars that often, but I've learned to not let dealers push me around. When my wife bought a new Camry in 1994 (told you not often) nobody had exactly what she wanted. We visited four dealers. I then called each, told them exactly what we wanted to order, said I was doing the same with a few other dealers, and asked for their best and final price. One dealer, after a few lies, admitted they never ordered cars, just sold what they had. Another was a complete a**h*** - never gave up on trying to push something we said "no" to. The other two came back with decent prices and were happy enough to order one.

When I bought my RX-8 last month, I was fortunate that the nearest dealer had *exactly* what I wanted in stock. Color was important, too. Love the Galaxy Grey.

Yea I placed an inventory quote on Mazdausa.com and got 3 responses with in 10minutes.

One guy told me to call him when I was ready for a test drive.

One guy told me that he couldnt get me a white one, but had 2 in grey.

One guy told me he could get me whatever I want.

The MSRP I got from mazda for what I want is about 29,000.

Im hoping to get that down to atleast 27.

Like everyone said, type in your Zip code and look up the dealers that have cars in colors/packages acceptable to you. Then if you're seroius about buying call them and say hi, i'm looking to buy a car by this date. I don't really care who I buy it from but I want to pay XX amount out the door with these options. I'm calling every dealership in the state and whoever can meet this price will get my business.

That's what I did here in TX and ended up getting a dealer to bite on a 05 Sport 6spd with appearance/rotary accents for 10K off MSRP. I put a small deposit down, had the sales guy meet me at the airport (1 hr flight, 4 hour drive), signed the papework and drove it home that afternoon.

Check out edmunds and kbb to see what the invoice price is. Dealers aren't really going much below invoice, maybe $500. Then there is the 1500 rebate and 500 MAC financing if u do that.

Dunno about the 06 but the MSRP on my 05 sport 6spd with appearance/rotary was right at high 29's and I paid 20.5 for it plus TTL

Best way to buy is with a check in hand for the amount you are willing to pay and a cool head.
Get the cash together for the full amount first (by financing on your own, through a bank or credit union or other means), locate a dealership with the model and trim level you want, walk directly up to the "pit" where the manager works and tell them what you want and what you will pay. Be polite and disinterested.
If they even start to "work" you, tell them that they make you uncomfortable and get up and leave.
Do your research on price so that the check you bring is not a rediculous low-ball. It is fair for the dealer to make some money, so don't go in there thinking $3500 under invoice is reasonable.

Invoice on a base model is around $24k. MSRP is about $26. A GT with the appearance package is $30k and $33k respectively.
Shop around first - you might find a dealer that is desparate.

What if it is an 05 GT and they are offering the $7,000 rebate. the MSRP is 35K. So it knocks it down to 28k do you think it would be unreasonable to ask for it at about 26k?

All bets are off on an '05. They have been paying so much to keep it on the floor that they might be willing to do anything to get rid of it.
Why is MSRP so high on that? Probably has dealer mark-up included, which should be discounted off of the price prior to an incentives.

the reason it is so high is it is a GT, and has the added bose, nav system, it is the pearl white color, and i forget what else might be added on to this car. I am just crossing my fingers that no one gets to it before me, I am saving up for a nice down payment and trading my 05 3 in.

You should be asking for it to be 25-26 OUT THE DOOR. I got nearly 10 grand off my 05 sport and they should be willing to discount at least that much or more on a GT package. Say the MSRP is 35, you should get 25-26 driveout.

Word of warning, Premier Mazda is a bunch of ********. My stepdad bought my mom's Tribute there in April. They screwed them around royally. They gave us a "definite" yes on trade-in value of her MPV and the price on a left-over 05. Then, they drag the paper work for three full days!!!! Seriously!!!! "You'll have to come back. The finance manager went home." "We can't find the keys." It was one thing after another so they could get out of their $3000 dealer cash rebate they were running in the paper was part of it. Well, on the night they did finally get a Tribute (not the one they wanted) when they got to the dealership the trained chimps were busily working on stripping out all the equipment and told them they were crazy if they expected to pay the price quoted for all the equipment that came with it!!!!! What a bunch of jerks!!! On top of that, the 05 they were trying to sell as brand new had several thousand miles on it and someone else had previously bought it and had it for around three weeks and then had to bring it back because the financing never went through (took that long to get it back because the people bought it and took it on a road trip).

I can't figure out why, but my stepdad bought a different Tribute from them. They gave them spare keys for a different vehicle, hid the correct spare key in the little hidden compartment under the floor in the back end wrapped up in something appearing to be garbage. Would have thrown the key away had it not fallen out of the crumpled up fast food bag!!! In the meantime before we did find the correct key we were trying to get them to get us one. They mail us a key but no fob. Complained to them that it wasn't right. Made us bring in the one piece and then mailed us the other piece. After about four attempts they still didn't get it right and we gave up, having since located the hidden spare.

Then, they were putting Lojack in it. One salesperson said they were to bring it back to get it installed. My mom calls to set up the appointment and they told her it was already installed and she said she was told to bring it in to be installed and that she had a piece of paper stating such. After much hassel they finally tell her it needs to be installed (duh) so she brings it in and they start arguing about it again telling her it is already in there, which it's not. When they mailed us the Lojack numbers it had her old vehicle she traded in listed on it!!! After three weeks we finally get the correct codes, not from the dealership but from Lojack themselves, because they sent in the wrong information to register it with LoJack also. More incompetence, either that or they are deliberately being rotten.

Then she has free oil changes for life. Her first oil change is supposed to be free anyway. They tried charging her $40 for it and said she didn't have the free oil change for life deal from them, which she could only prove because after more arguing she got one of the paperwork people to put it in writing, otherwise they wouldn't have given any proof of it.

Their free carwash is a joke also. When my mom was getting her oil changed they washed her car. The bad part is that they opened her moonroof first and got the inside all wet!!!

They screwed up the financing companies also. It was supposed to be financed through Mazda for the $500 rebate. It wasn't. (Found this out from our insurance company when they called to tell us we gave them the wrong finance company). They didn't get the $500 MAC cash they were suppose to either because of this. It took a week before we found out about what happened with the financing. Went to the credit union to refinance through them. That other loan company charged $1000 in interest and fees for one week of the loan!!!!

There were several other things that were totally screwed up with this but it would probably take weeks to go on about (like one of the salesguys taking a swing at my stepdad in the showroom). My stepdad filed a complaint with Mazda about it and also called the state attorney general's office consumer division about all the "mistakes" and "problems" with this sale (far more than I listed here). The person there said they were already investigating this auto group for numerous similar complaints.

I would avoid them it at all possible.

Oh, another thing they did to someone else. There is a lady that lives not too far from me who recently bought an RX-8 from them (almost four months ago now). I invited her to join this club but I don't know if she has or not. Anyway, when she bought it she also ordered and paid for rotary accents and a few other things. She keeps calling them to see if they came in and to have them put on. They told her she never bought them or paid for them, et cetera and won't put them on unless she pays for them again. She has receipts for this and I'm not sure how it turned out. It's been three weeks since we heard this story. Also, being nearly four months now since she bought it she still hasn't received her license plates for her car and her temporary has since expired and she had to buy a new one. The DMV told her the plates were sent to the dealership and they should be there so she can get them. The dealership told her they didn't have them, they were sent to her house instead. She was telling us all this without knowing a thing about our experience with it, didn't know us beforehand. Ran into her at a restaurant and asked her if she was the lady that lived in a certain place and she said she was and ended up talking to her for over an hour.

Edit: The salesguy trying to start a fight with my stepdad was after he had called that day after finding out the financing contract was not as listed on the paperwork (terms and company) which in Oregon and according to the fine print on the paperwork gives the buyer the right to rescind the contract and void the sale. He called and told him that is what he wanted to do, basically the final straw here. They acted all nice about it and arranged an appointment for them to come in and get the MPV back and cancel the sale. They get there and start on some paperwork. One of the sales people goes and gets the MPV and drives it up front. My mom goes and gets her stuff out of the Tribute to transfer back into the MPV. When she comes back with her stuff expecting to get the key the sales managers then told them they were crazy if they expected to cancel the sale because "a sale is a sale" and there was nothing we could do about it. My stepdad starts yelling at them for wasting everyone's time with this whole thing, especially saying to come on down and they would void the sale and give the MPV back with no fees or penalties or anything, "just like it never took place" in their exact words. Then they made every effort to make it look like they were actually doing what they said they were going to do, and then said they weren't, like a huge joke on us. After my stepdad starts yelling and saying he was going to call the police, sue them, whatever (they are now holding the keys to the Tribute as well at this time since they took them away in this "transfer" they allegedly were doing, and then wouldn't give those keys back either) this large guy comes out, shoves my stepdad and starts screaming in his face.

Sounds like you have pretty much what I have in mine. I got mine at the end of March from Ron Tonkin. The 06s had just arrived on lots that week. MSRP was $36,5xx on mine. I got it for just over $33,000 out the door. There were no Mazda rebates, MAC cash, dealer discounts, or anything else available on 06s at that time since they had just arrived. No dealing over price or anything else. My price was $400 over invoice. At this late date you should have been able to do better than that.

One thing that is confusing to me is the 05 i wanna get has 698 miles on it. IS there anyway to check and make sure it isnt a car someone bought and then they had to take it back because of financing?

Carfax?

In Oregon if it has over a certain number of miles (think I was told 1500) then it has to be listed as at least a demonstrator car.

Glad that you made up your mind. I also wanted ONLY a white 05 but only with the grand touring package. I checked mazdausa, autotrader, ebay, cars.com, local paper, craigslist and I kept checking on a daily basis. It was hard to find a white 05 with the grand touring package.

I found 2, one near me for $23,500 with 3500 miles (still available) and another one for $19,750 + 250 dealer prep/paperwork BS fee with 9,500 miles. Both were grand tourings with appearance package and did not have navigation.

I ended up getting the cheaper one with 9,500 miles. It was located at ford dealership. It is out of state (8-10 hours) away. I have to rent a car one way out of NY to get it and then drive it back.

I tried to get the other one for 21K but the seller was not budging so I ended up saving $3000 and getting the other one. If white is what you want, stick with it and don't settle for any other color. I came very very close to buying a yellow 04 rx8 but the seller did not go down in price to the price I was willing to pay. I am glad he did not since I really did not like the yellow but it was a great deal. I'm very excited to pick up the white car this week.

Every day, check the following sites and I am sure you will get one..

Rx8club-4 sale section
autotrader.com
carbuyersmarket.com
cars.com
ebay.com
craigslist (check various states close to you)

Are you looking to only purchase new or will you get one with low miles? I opted to get it with low miles since you will not pay tax from a private seller.

I've attached a pic....
