AUTO RX-8 Owners PLEASE REPLY.

Hi everyone, thanks for coming to this thread. It's almost 2005 and I was planning on buying a new RX-8. My 1992 Integra isn't cutting it anymore But nonetheless, the RX-8 seems aggressively superior. I was wondering how much you guys paid for yours out the door. Thanks for your time.

Dragon...Why not a 6 speed? You know the auto is rated 40hp lower than the manual, right? You also know the auto does'nt rev to 9k, right? What's your reasoning? Not slamming an auto, just want to ensure you know the drawbacks.

If you want an auto, buy an auto. The reasons don't matter... they're your reasons. You won't be disappointed.

If you are buying a 2005, then it is hard to say what you will pay, but expect it to be MSRP. If you shop for a remaining 2004 now, it will be a bargain. At least $2-3K below sticker. Dependiing on your location, of course.

I'm responding to this thread because your question was directed to auto owners. Ok, I got the auto and not the 6 speed because I want to drive long distance and be comfortable in city driving. Based on my research, the official Mazda numbers rates the RX8 automatic at 7.2 sec. from 0-60 MPH, while the manual clocks 6.4 sec from 0-60 MPH. Both cars are not so different from each other and personally a difference of 0.8 sec is not much for a price difference of $1,500. Based on your posting, price seems important to you. So, if you want to save $1,500, get the auto. I paid $30,400.00 with grand touring package (xenon lights, power seats, 18 wheels, leather seats, etc), a great navigation system, & 6 Disk CD-changer. It came with a $2,500 rebate. The pick up of my auto is great and you could get to 120 mph very quickly on an RX automatic.

ayap888, I picked up my 04 last Thursday. Red, Auto, appearance and GT. Its a great car no matter what tranny it has. It certainly has curb appeal. I paid $30,000 something as well I guess cause its an 04. Build date is June 04 so its a new car.

Dealer showed me a 2005 white with lots of MS stuff already on it. Awesome looking car and with that super MS exhaust cat back it added 20 more hp. I am very happy with my 04 but the white 05 certainly is a very nice looking car.

You should consider getting an 04. You can get a great deal, and it's the same car.

Uhh MS Cat back exhaust adding 20 HP? Uhhh.. don't mislead the guy right before he goes and buy his car :P

A better question is how much are people paying for a 2004 AT recently, not 1 year ago. Since most of us probably paid more ... now would be a good time to get the 2004, and save some cash. 2005 same thing as 2004...

ditto on what outlaws extreme said...your only looking at a maximum 5hp gain and a more likely 2-3 horsepower gain...the only thing MS has that will give you a significant gain is the MS flywheel...probably 12-15 HP increase (well really the flywheel just lets you utilize that much more HP that is in the car)

Cost of Auto

Not including tax, I rolled out last March with a base auto with spoiler under $25k; seems you should be able to do better on '04 remainders.

There is nothing wrong with buying an automatic transmission RX-8. Hell, I almost came home with one. I was amazed by how well the car accelerates. The one I was driving stickered for about $31,000, because it had some luxury amenities. I'm sure you can get a base 2004 model for less than $25,000.

I got my Auto for around $300 under invoice at the end of July. You'll pay much higher for the 2005s and there isn't much difference aside from the new key fob and white color. I love the car even though I spent quite a bit of time trying to decide between AT or MT. I decided that since I'm not that well versed with MT driving and I do a bunch of city driving the AT would be best. Be warned, the RX-8 is not a dragster and you WILL get beat off the line often no matter the tranny. So yes, I'm an AT owner and I love my car. Let's not turn this into another MT vs AT thread.

Just test drive both--I did and ended up with the auto--mainly because I found a good deal on one--and if you live in the city-you aren't taking it to redline every day. The 6speed is excellent though--the auto is a different drive. If I were you, I'd go for a 2004, you should be able to get one for below MSRP.

I must've gotten lucky, but I paid around $3000 below invoice for an auto Touring package w/ rear spoiler and 100k-mile powertrain warranty, or around $23,500. Granted, that included the college grad rebate, a trade-in on a car w/ over 100k miles, and a whole lotta heckling. I purchased my 8 in early August, if that helps.

BTW, just for future reference, I've heard that July/August is the best time to buy a car b/c most automakers start to come out with next year's lineup and, if you wait til after then, the rebates expire. Any truth to that generality? Helped me get a good deal anyway! :D

Dr. Bob: Even though UniqueDragon was only asking for Auto prices, congratulations and welcome to the RX-8 club!

I bought a June 2nd build from inventory on June 17th. (Last 2004 they received.) It arrived at the dealer August 2nd-ish for an August 6th pick-up. Sticker was $32,200., paid $30,100 and they threw in alum pedals.

See opt's below.....

Buying an RX under invoice is a good deal. Makes you wonder what is being withheld by the dealer then when they allow deals under invoice. On the 20 HP for the Cat back issue. You must consider the source. That comment was made by the Sales Manager. Get it? He is tuned to deal making and making remarks like that. They all do that. I would not have bought the car if it was 100 HP more!! I just bought the 04 and I am really happy with the car. Not so much into great HP gains anyway. With more HP comes the downside of lower gas mileage. I even had one of their sales guys. A 20 something year old tell me the AT is a "Low Grade" car and its for the girls. That was total sales bunk and I did not tell him I had an AT. Wonder how long that salesman will last there?
