Anyone with A Plan got a rx8??

Hello, im just wondering if anyone with a A-plan purchased a rx8, and how much of a discount did you get.

For those who dont know wut a A-plan is, its a Discount from
Ford Plant employees, its a discount that if you worked in the Ford Plant, youll get discount in Ford , Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda and Volvo cars.

Is the A-plan usually significantly better than the S-plan (for suppliers of Ford/Mazda/Volvo/whatever)? The RX-8 is now showing up on the S-plan price list, with a price a bit under dealer invoice.

The A plan is a higher discount, however, it is only form immediate family members of ford employees. The S plan is still worth a couple grand though and can be used by anyone.
When I bought my car, they asked if I eligible for either S, A, Z, or it think it was X. Unfortunatly I wasn't so I paid in full.
Oh, and the Z plan is for for retirees and I believe it is the same discount as the A plan. As for the X I think it is for special cases.

hope that helps,

Kagero-
I'm not sure of the A-Plan, but I work for a company that is a Ford 'Partner', which qualifies me for the 'X Plan' discount on Ford vehicles. On the Fordpartner website, when I look at any of the Ford family company vehicles, the discount is called the 'X-Plan', including Jaguar, Volvo, Mercury, Land Rover, etc... except for Mazda, which calls it the 'S-Plan'.

Long story short, the 'S-Plan' appears to be invoice, as the menu of options/prices on the partner website matches exactly with what my dealer said was invoice, as well as MSN Carpoint website invoice pricing. Bottom line savings was about $3500 on a fully loaded RX-8 ($35,800 MSRP).

Good luck!

The X-Plan is for corporate partners. A relative of mine qualifies and checked for the RX-8 about a month ago, but it still was not available, however, X-Plan discounts can vary in degree from company to company, or at least so I've been told.

Similar to X-Plan, Honda and BMW tend to give the lowest of discounts, while Nissan/Infiniti and Subaru are always below invoice. My relative told me the other day that he can get a loaded 350Z or G35C for about $1,000 below invoice.

The RX8 isn't yet offered on A plan. Possibly next year or maybe the next model year. They occasionally don't offer some cars on A-plan (The Thunderbird a few years ago, for example). I couldn't wait so I bought mine in August.

FWIW, I just bought 2003 close-out Ford Explorer on the X-Plan (which, as others have stated, isn’t as large of discount as the A-Plan). The MSRP was $28,105 & the X-Plan price was $25,716 which works out to a 8.5% discount. Had I opted for a higher priced trim level, I would have received a larger discount…as I recall, the top of the line models were discounted about 10.5%.

The X-Plan prices tend to be about 1.2% lower than those reported by Edmunds.com as the average price paid. However, in the book “How Not To Get Taken Every Time” (a consumer advocacy based, automotive buyers guide), the reader is warned that nearly all sources of information such as Edmunds.com have a conflict of interest due to connections with manufactures & dealers.

My guess is that the X-Plan ultimately winds up being almost exactly what the average person pays but there’s no haggling & the buyer can move from dealership to dealership searching for exactly the right model, color & options without having to reestablishing a relationship.

In my case, there were five Explorers that were exactly what I wanted within a 30 mile radius so I checked the build dates & mileage on each one & took the cream of the crop. This is no small advantage as my Explorer was built just seven weeks before I took delivery while the oldest one was 49 weeks old.

I offered to buy the 49 week old Explorer for $500 under X-Plan…the dealer refused my offer with a pronounced look of shock & disgust on his face…three hours later, the seven week old Explorer was in my garage. $500 is the low side of what it’s worth to avoid 42 weeks of baking in the hot California sun. The dealer either thought I was bluffing or he wasn’t sophisticated enough to put himself in the place of the consumer or ???

S Plan already? I'm going to have to check again for the X discount. I'm getting pretty impatient now that everyone has their cars already. It took a lot of discipline the other day for me not to take a Black 6spd Touring from the lot by me.

Just to clear things up: All Ford plans, X,A, Partners etc. fall under Mazda's S-Plan. Mazda also has the E-plan which is available to MNAO employees and Mazda Elite Dealership employees(but not their family members:they would still get S-Plan) S-Plan pricing will be just under invoice on the RX-8. E-Plan would be about $700-800 below that.

the 8 has been on the Mazda S plan since June. that's still the date on the current S price sheet.

I bought mine at the S price (I work for a Ford partner) but the dealer never even asked for the PIN or my ID.

go figure. The holdback from Mazda is bigger if they file their S plan paperwork.

depending on where you live, the Mazda dealers will act like the 8 isn't on the plan or they won't honor the plan for the 8. just call a few. first ask if they participate in the S plan. If they say yes, ask if they will do the 8 on plan. As soon as you find one that will, tell the others. Then they all will.
