I sent the paper work in for the buyback last week. Supposed to hear back from Mazda within 5 days of them receiving the letter, should have received it last Wednesday/Thursday. I wondering if anyone has heard back from Mazda on the next step or already had the car bought back.

 

Well.....waited 15 days from the day I mailed in the paperwork and finally called Mazda. After being on hold for 15 minutes, I was told that they had received my paperwork and that I should be contacted in a day or two. Patience may be a virtue, just not one of mine.

I put the car in storage and have not driven it since the day I sent the paperwork in. Just don't want to tempt fate and have something happen to the car before the buyback.

 

I heard from them yesterday. Supposed to e-mail me how much money I'll be getting in the next 2 days. Then Mazda is supposed to contact me about the drop off details.

I've been driving the hell out of mine!

Is there some question as to how much you will receive? I thought that the full purchase price was the amount. Was there a trade involved?

 

No, there shouldn't be any question. I'm just given the opportunity to check the numbers to make sure they're correct.

 

I posted this elsewhere on the board, but here it is here again.

I have received the "final" letter, if you will, as of last week. It is an agreement with the repurchase refund clearly spelled out. That was emailed to me on 9/11. I promptly printed out the documents (the amount is exactly the same as my purchase price plus tax, title, doc.) and faxed them back. I was told from that point that "Emma" would be requesting the check(s) to be cut and then scheduling a drop off appointment with the dealer I purchased the vehicle from. She said that could take as long as 30 days. The actual signed paperwork and vehicle will then be exchanged for the check(s) at the "surrender" meeting where the vehicle will also be closely checked out for unreasonable wear and tear.

That's what I know at this point :-) And yes, I'm still driving the hell out of mine as well!

 

I'm wondering what they're calling unreasonable wear and tear. I have a small chip out of the paint on my hood (black car) where a rock must have hit me.

 

I'm trying to contact them. Why they need to know the payoff amount of the loan if they are giving us a check for the full price?

It better not be just a payoff of the loan.

 

A representative from an outfit called ISG called me the day they received my paperwork. I presume that ISG is a contractor that Mazda hired to process the repurchases. They wanted me to call my bank to authorize the bank to tell them the payoff on the car loan. I did this and called back. When I asked the ISG representative how long it would take to get this straightened out, she said it would take several days. She indicated that she simply takes the files in the order in which she receives them. I asked if there were very many buy back requests and she said "Oh yes, there are a whole bunch of them."

 

I'd be curious to know what the exact number is. Are we talking 200? 500? 1,000+? I'm sure Mazda will never release those numbers. And what happens to the cars that are bought back? Are they reconditioned at the dealer and sold as used cars?

 

It was mentioned in another thread that all of the returned RX-8s will NOT be release to the public and instead will be sold to Mazda employees at a discount. I believe this is what they did with the Miatas a few years back when some Miata owners were given that option.

Just got my e-mail today detailing the specifics. No problems at all.

The only money I'll be out is the interest on the loan. $286.60 is not bat at all for a 2 month rental of a brand new car.

Mazda has been great through all of this.
