Am I the only one a little concerned about this????

OK. I read some recent posts in the dealership forum, and I had to see for myself. I went online and got several dealer quotes last night not far from me, including the one where I got my rx8 in February. I emailed them and said I am shopping all online mazda dealerships and finding best price. I said BEST QUOTE WINS. Well, I just got home from work and checked my email. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. AT the dealer 5 miles away, I got quoted for an msrp $35849 RED/ GT with black red leather and every option for $30422. Car is brand new with 4 miles on it. They have 13 fully looaded ones to chose from. The other dealer I bought mine from quoted me at 30,800 for the same fully loaded GT msrp'ed at $35849. Of course both dealers that got back to me have lots of them they probably have to clear out, but $1600+ below invoice? THAT"S INSANE. Am I the only one concerned with the future of the rx8? What are your views on this? I hope mazda just made way too many 04 models, and that is the cause of this overstock as the 05 models are arriving. They have to drastically cut down the 05 model to prevent this form happening again. Dealers must not be happy that they are forced to sell these things for so so cheap. I am sure Mazda is covering the financial loss dealers will endure though. To me, this is a slap in the face about the popularity of the rx8, and possibly the future of the car. WHat upsets me the most about this is I did a KBB trade in and private party resale value for my rx8. It's traded in talue is $27500, and resale value is $30 500. They are selling new for that price. KBB means jack squat on this car. I sure hope the value doesn't drop. Feel free to express your views on this. I'd like to here some thoughts and opinions. Thanks!!

nope, not worried at all- especially since one of the Mazda VPs said something in a recent Automotive News about how great the Mazda3, Mazda6, and RX-8 were selling this year. There are just a lot of them- which is good, as Mazda wants to sell all it can.

You List MSRP And Then Say "$1600 Below Invoice". You Should List The Invoice Price So We Can Compare. But No I Am Not Worried At All Because

A. A Car Is Not An Investment.
B. Mazda Is Selling Them Nearly As Fast As They Can Make Them
C. If More People Can Afford One Hooray For Them! Everyone Should Get A Chance To Drive This Marvel

And Last But Not Least

D. I Am Never Selling This Car So I Dont Care If Kbb Says It's Worth $0

You might be right. Maybe Mazda knew this would happen, and they would be so overstocked, they would have no choice but to sell a large remainder of their cars at dealer cost. Maybe to them all they care about is getting as many of them on road in the early years in hopes the popularity would grow. I've just never seen anything like this before. It's definitely a unique and bold move to bring the the rx8 into the mainstream of every day cars. I guess I was very niave at time of purchase because I did not know they mass produced this car like they did. Since I plan on trading my car in 3-4 years, I am a bit concerned about what the value will be. The fact that I couldn't get anywhere near private party value makes me worry, but we'll see what happens to the value of this car in the next few years. I don't mind owning a car that's a dime a dozen, but I hope I I can get trade in value when the time comes.

Yup, that's what I'm thinking. And I bet it happens a lot more than we notice- we're just so wrapped up in the 8 we concentrate on every little detail. We could have, say, the Crossfire's selling problems...

My bad, I had to edit because I put out wrong number. Here are the exact numbers form edmuinds, and the two dealer quotes I got. Msrp $35844. Edmunds Invoice $32460. SO the quotes I got were $1700 and $2000 below Edmunds Invoice. They even told me to print out the page and go to dealer, to guarantee this price on car. I suggest people in the PHiladelphia, NY and NJ area who are looking to buy GO NOW. Apparently the dealers are desparate to liquidate, and the cars are literally going for a steal. It's basically like getting $500 below invoice, and a free navigation system. I guess I shoudl have waited a few months before buying mine

The best price I've seen in MD is slightly above invoice. Could you post the specific dealership, or just PM then to me. It's a long drive, but I'll do it to save that much.

In a way I'm upset. I paid MSRP a year ago, now it seems I can buy the same car for 4-5 k less. Was my last year with my 8 worth 4-5k, I don't know. It was sweet, but that sweet? Maybe. I still love my car and drive as much as possible. At 25k miles per yr, I'll lose my warrantee in about 1 yr fron now. Look out FI here I come.

I live in 18042 zip code. I got quotes from Young Mazda PA, and Crystal Mazda NJ I am questioning the validity of these quotes, and the more I think about it, the more it's likely these models they quoted me on are a year old, or some sort of demo model with miles on them, but never owned. Could also be a ploy to get you in there. I should have realized before making post that 1500 below invoice can't be without a catch of some kind. I know rx8s are going for cheaper then ever, but that seems way too cheap to me. I own one already so I can't look further into it, but if you get a new fully loaded rx8 for $30500, there has to be some sort of catch to it. I'd get a quote from them on a specific high vin number range rx8, and see what you get. I can tell you one thing though. I bought my car in February for only $100 over invoice, and I didn't even have to haggle with them. That was their going price on all of them, and I had my pick of crop of over 80 cars at the time. Talk about having a hard time picking a color. I finally chose black. You can definitely swing a 500 under invoice deal here in my area without a problem. They even offer 0% apr for 36 months now in my area. I'd suggest to all owners waiting for the 05 model to buy now. You won't find an 05 model for anywhere near these prices until next year.

Hmmm, I was quoted $2,200 under invoice, plus the $4,250 lease incentive on a Brand new '04... Total of $6,450 below invoice... Not too bad, but don't wanna give up my S2000 for and RX-8...

BTW: This is in Florida.....
