Unhappy AHHH New Member The Dilemma

I'm in the market for either a Lancer Evolution VIII or an Rx-8 (god I love this car). I'm one of those individuals who came away impressed after Mazda Rev It Up. I've been dreaming ever since.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what exactly the appearance package is. I read what it includes in the mazda website, but it'd be nice if someone could point out visually what the appearance package is. I'm just confused because if it's nothing pretty or significant, I'd rather save my money and go with the touring package, a MS spoiler, the polished accents, and stop there.

Anyone know the general invoice or whole sale price on the rx-8? And is it easy to bargain the prices of the packages? Because if the price of the packages that I want plus the car is almost the same as the EVO, then I might not consider the rx-8.

What's the best deals you've ever gotten for an rx-8?

I know something about Mitsu's - have a 2G turbo Eclipse with the same engine as the Evo VIII.

The Evo VIII was one of the cars I was considering because I really like the engine. But I drove the 8, and WOW! The Mitsu has WAY more power, but the 8 has handling and refinement that the Evo VIII can only dream about.

If you can find a way to qualify for S-plan pricing, you will be able to buy the 8's at a shade under invoice without haggling. Otherwise, I got several offers locally close to invoice.

Invoice on an MT with 1GT (Gran Touring package) is about $28,500. There are several sites that will give you invoice pricing and many posts here about that.

As far as checking out the appearance package... I went to the dealer and looked at cars with & without... better to see in person than look at pictures. I decided I could live without because the 1GT package is the limit of my budget.

The 8 was just much more the car for me than the Evo VIII

Another note that may steer you away from the mitsu. If DaimlerChrylser pulls out mitsu may tank since they would need like a 5 billion dollar cash infusion to stay alive. Just something to think about when purchasing. I would hate to buy a new car and then have the company go out of business in a year leaving me without any warranty coverage or parts availability.

It's easy to get them for around invoice now (or just under). I got my base RX8 6MT for <$25k.
