2004 RX8 Grand Touring...

Hi all. This is my first post here. I currently have a Mazda3s Hatch and am looking to trade up to an RX8. There is currently an 04 Grand Touring at a local dealership for $20,995k. It has 34k miles and has all options, but navi. I'm curious as to whether you all think I can get them down on this price some. I have seen a few with the same options with less miles for $20,995. Oh...and it is an auto. I know some here don't like the auto RX8, but my current car is a 5 speed and with all the traffic I am in, it is getting kind of old.

Any help or advice about this potential purchase would be greatly appreciated.

I think you can do much better- by the way, there are STILL a few leftover NEW 2005's left.

2-3 months ago while it was still summer, i saw a number of 04 GT go for 16k private party. I'm betting you could do better now, but dealers will definitely not bend that far...

The only thing that keeps me leaning towards this vehicle is that it has everything I am looking for especially color (WB). I don't want silver, red, gray, or black.

I think I'll keep looking but talk to the dealer and see how low they will go. And...I'll the local dealers and look for any new 05's in the area.

You get what you pay for. You can always find someone desperate to sell their car, and for 17k it was probably a basic.

you won't find any 04's cheaper than that at a dealer.

You really need to reconsider the AT and go for the MT. Such a huge difference!

I know there is a huge difference, even in HP, but I drive a 5 speed right now and with traffic, I just can't justify owning another mt right now. I would love to make it beep though.

I probably will. They will have the Skina ready for sale on Tuesday. They are getting it shipped in from another dealer or something.

Oh...and I went to look at the gray GT and I must say that it was in bad condition. Looked like it had been wrecked before and the appearance package, plus the nose of the car was scratched up really bad.

I did test drive a basic RX8 and I am curious about something the salesperson said. He was talking about the base model had 180 or 190 horsepower and the the GT had 232. I said to him don't you mean the AT is 190 and the MT is 232 and he said no I believe it is the difference in the trim levels and that they have a "different" engine. He's wrong right?

Yes, he's wrong. It's AT with 197 and MT with 238 (232 now)..

I'm shopping for a RX-8 also and I have seen an inexcusable amount of misinformation regarding these cars. Do your own research if you want facts.

Here are some examples of the bad info I've seen in my search:

At Carmax an 04 MT that listed the HP stats for the AT. Also the exact opposite, AT with the stats for the MT.

Many 04 AT's listed as a 6 speed! The 6 speed AT didn't come out till 06.

Number of cylinders, 2, 3, 4 and 0. 0 is correct but will confuse anyone unfamiliar with rotaries.

The Carmax salesman told me the car had 3 rotors. I corrected him telling him there are only 2. Then he said because they are 3 sided it's basically a 6 cylinder.

Buy the Shinka! My salesman didn't know crap when I bought mine, I just smiled and nodded until it was time to deal with the price.
