2004 Rx8 $16,400...?
I put a reserve down on a VR 2004 RX8 with 34,xxx miles on it. 6 MT. The dealer was asking $17,888 but talked him down to $16,400 ( pretty good bargaining if you ask me :] ) The car is fully loaded with everything besides the spoiler/aero appearance kit. Red/Black leather ( love the interior ). After the sales tax and what not it comes to around $17,000 out the door. That includes Mazda inspecting every point of the car (instead of the Honda dealer who has it), a complete detailing, all small scratches being buffed out and anything else that needs fixing. When Mazda inspects it, Honda will pay for anything damaged or not right.
The car runs beautifully and shifts great (touchy clutch in my opinion, something I'll have to get used to)
I THINK she has an aftermarket exhaust on her but I can't tell. She looks like she has bigger pipes than stock on her and she screams. Hard to see here but best I have (see attachment).
What do you guys think of this deal? I go tuesday to check financing and hopefully buy it. Just though I'd check with you guys first to see what you think. I can get more pics upon request.
I'm new here so any help would be great. Thanks in advance guys and I can't wait to join the CULT as some of you say

I spent most of the last 6 weeks hunting for a pre-owned RX in Texas.
IMO: Average deal.
First off, it is nice to have negotiated down to $16,400, but the dealer is probably still making a healthy profit. Every private seller I talked to who had an '04 usually owed the bank $12,000 to $13,500. Every dealer who supposedly showed me the price they got it for showed $13,300. So conservatively, say the dealer gave the trade $13,500 to make the deal work, (again, conservatively) they are making $2,900.
They jacked the price up because it is a "rare" sports car and all red & flashy, and gave themselves a cushion so they could be "negotiated" down $1,400.
In Texas I had a dozen or more RX8's similar to yours to choose from starting at $14,000 base model. Most Grand touring started at $15,500.
You can certainly do worse though....I've seen 2004 low mileage 8's priced all the way up to $24K in TX
Is that a Grand Touring?

He he
This is the one for sale by Bernardi Honda of Natick MA.
They have a car fax report up on Autotrader - you should check it out if you haven't already. Looks to me like it was a dealer demo car for the first 5000 miles of its life and it failed an emission test too later on, which is strange for a newer vehicle although perhaps less so for a rotary. I also wonder why the second owner had it for such a short time - wonder if they traded it on an S2000!!
Since you're reasonably local how's your hunting been in the area? From what I've seen not too many '8's moving but not too many keenly priced either. Perhaps the warmer weather will change that.
cheers

The salesman said the guy who had it had to part it out because his wife made him.

I've never driven a bone stock RX8 nor heard one in person, but if I had to take a wild guess, I'd say its not just tips. The Honda dealer sent it to Mazda to get checked out saying Exhaust (too loud?) I told them not to touch it cause I was afraid they'd go back to stock and then give it to me. It's definitely a head turner even in low RPM's.

I thought I'd ask about something that's been bugging me, last week when I went to check the car out, I was walking around the car and on the back quarter panels, there is like a patch looking thing in front of the wheel well painted the same color as the car. It's on both sides I beleive. What is it?
