2004 RX-8 Free Factory-Scheduled Maintenance Program

Is anyone familiar with this program? I'd like to be on it - or is this something that you have to get when you buy the car?

Here's the link - http://www.finishlineperformance.com...ocs/ad_47.html

Any info would be great.

Thanks

its for those who bought their cars in the begining when the car was first released when mazda rated the car at 249, then changed it to 239. So those ppl got the option for buyback or the free service plan. so u prob wont have it.

This is probably originating from when Mazda restated the hp for the RX-8. At that point they offered to either take the car back for a full refund, or gave to option of a $500 certificate and free scheduled maintenance for the duration of the vehicle's warranty - at least that is what I recall.

This bulletin is no longer of any importance to anyone unless they purchased the RX-8 early enough to have been allowed the above listed two options.

You are not missing anything with the "free" maintenance. It only covers oil changes and one tuneup. Personally, I do this stuff myself with a lot less hassle than driving 1/2 an hour to the dealer and then waiting forever to pick up the car. The last time I brought my car in for the 15,000 mile service, they also changed the air filter for the bargain price of $65. The also overfilled the oil and did not clean or vacuum the car. I won't bother to bring it in again, with the exception of the tuneup service. This is the second Mazda dealer I have worked with, and I think both stink. Mazda really needs to improve their dealer network in order to sell more cars. They have the product, but they are let down by incompetent and unscrupulous dealers.

good to know. My dealer is a puts, too. The cat went bad, so they had to replace it. I asked what had gone wrong, he said something got stuck and clogged it - perhaps the O2 sensor, he said - I don't know about you guys, but nothing should be going through there that would "clog" the cat. The cat could disintegrate, but if that were the case, then he should just say so. Took them 3 days to fix that bolt on piece. Then he wanted to sell me the $300 15,000 mile checkup which included things like "filling up the washer fluid". I told him to fix up the bolt on piece and get me out of there.

I recently moved so I don't have a shop to work in, anymore. I asked him to change the oil, when he quoted me the $50 price, I told him to leave it alone. He said the high price was due to the special 5-20 oil - to which I replied, so it' cheaper...

Anyway, I'm looking for a new dealer, instead of Ramsey Mazda, in northern new jersey/rockland county. Anyone with any suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks

I have free maintenance and I haven't had to pay for a single thing on any of my trips into my dealership here. I've even had new brake pads installed because the original ones started squealing.

That's because Mazda issued a TSB on squealing brake pads ... not because you have the free maintenance.
