'06 after the '07 come out

anybody have a guess when the 2007 Rx8's come out and what kind of prices the 2006 Rx8's that are left will have? (within afew months the 07's come out)

Im pretty particular on what i want:
silver, gray, maybe black..in that order of preference
black leather interior (no black/red or black/orange)
GT
nav

so that leaves me with these options;

2005 Rx8 for about 20k-24k *can get it now, just keep waiting for one with my specs to come out.

2006 for hopefully about 25k *when the 2007 come out; assuming theres good deals.

2007 *will be eatin cup'o noodles for lunch for the next year or so....

ive completley ruled out the 2004, dont ask me what rational thought i have with this decision, but i guess it comes down to being 1)nervous about 2004 problems and waranty. b) i gotta have that switch blade key atleast, even better would be that card key in the 2006.

i would also consider the 350z, wife slapped that one down, we have 1 kid and wants another and thinks i need more room in case of an emergency. same applies to the new camaro coming out *drool*

The switch blade key can be bought for about $200 - 250.

The 2004's should be okay if you get a unit that has a build date in 2004 onwards. Most changes in the production line are TSBs for the older units, so there isn't much that you'd miss out on. You can get a 2004 with half the warranty still available, so I personally wouldn't rule them out if you find a good deal on one.

Through the end of August Mazda has 1,500 customer cash on 06's. I'd wait a few months and see if they pop that up to the 4k they used to have on 05's. If that happens you should be able to get one for 4-5k below invoice. If you have the option I'd go with an 06 since that gave Mazda 3 years to work out the bugs more-or-less. And the keyless start is cool

The only problem with waiting, though, is what I ran into. I couldn't find anything available with the color/options I wanted. I started casually browsing inventory looking last August and wasn't turning up much. In October I talked to MNAO and had then search their inventory and there were only three blue ones on the whole western half of the United states, none of them GT except for an automatic, whcih I didn't want. There was only one in the national inventory that had what I wanted, in Miami. The dealership wasn't giving me much discount or incentive on it when I called. They said they would only do $1000 off MSRP but it would have cost at least that much to have it shipped clear across the country so I passed. Their reasoning for no discount was that RX-8s were discontinued so what was left was it and that he was doing me a real "favor" by taking anything off, blah blah, and how they were selling very easily for several thousand over MSRP because there would be no more. I didn't feel like even dealing with them after that. I just ended up special ordering mine and had to wait until the end of March to get it.

If you aren't overly particular with what you want it would be a good idea to wait, though.

Gotta tell you, MNAO is full of crap. I started looking for RX-8's in January and there were 2 of the exact car you got (WB, MT, w/ NAV) within 5 miles of my house. Granted it is on the other side of the country, but it shows me Mazda doesn't know where there cars are.

I happened to be walking by a Mazda dealer yesterday and noticed there were NO 8's on the entire lot. It is a somewhat small lot, but it still makes me think that dealers may have bought less 8's for 2006 because of what happened with the 2005's. This might make it harder to find what you're looking for the later on you wait.

Well, they were looking for cars that also had the other options I also ordered on my car. If I didn't want blue there were about two dozen across the country with everything I ordered except they weren't blue. It would have cost a lot more to add on the extras after the fact. Essentially they started looking for blue ones and then started sorting them out by my options. They didn't tell me what all was available with only some of my options. That they did tell me was that one in Miami was a perfect match. There were three blue total in the western half of the country. There were 14 blue GTs left total across the country at that time. I'm sure the two you saw were included in that list. They just didn't match what I was searching for. It just ended up being easier for me to order one and wait impatiently.

What other options are there? You have color, package, and then NAV. Everything else can be (and usually is) installed by the dealer like appearance package or rotary accents.

Grand Touring Package
Navigation
Appearance Package
Rotary Accent Package
Rear Wing Spoiler
In-dash 6-Disc CD Changer
Spare Tire Kit
Alarm Shock Sensor Upgrade
Fender Strakes

Mine actually rolled off the truck with the appearance package, spoiler already installed. The only thing that wasn't were the fender strakes and rotary accents because Mazda ran out and they were on backorder so they got deleted from the order. Fortunately the dealership had some in to put on. They charged me the option price of what they were if they had come on the car from the factory instead of being deleted due to a parts shortage. Otherwise it would have cost more. The appearance package costs more to buy after the fact than it did if it was already on the car. Same with the other stuff. Plus the same warranty would apply as it would to the rest of the car. These things are all also covered by insurance because they were on the car at original purchase. Depending on your insurance company and/or state these extras aren't covered by insurance or considered in vehicle pricing if it is totalled because it was an addition later. This way they are.

I don’t think I’d trust a dealer to install an appearance package myself. Actually one dealer I spoke to when I was looking at a White GT they had on the lot said their service department would not install it for fear of screwing it up.

Depending on your budget and how specific the options you want I would think you’d be able to find something you want in a few months.. A good way to find a 05 or 06 (after the 07’s have been out a while) is to go to autotrader.com. Just make sure you select new and you can better search for cars than the Mazda site. Mazda’s site would only do dealers in a 50 mile radius for me.

I’d also watch it closely and as soon as the incentive goes up to what you want jump on the car. It also depends on the dealer many were not willing to give me invoice or below on a car and were tacking on $300-$400 in fees. I had to drive 60 miles each way for the car/options and price I wanted.

i like the idea of the 2006 with keyless start, im a gadget freak, another reason i want the navy...guess ill just keep checking or wait and see what happens, no hurry besides the fact I freakin just want this car bad. luckily, my other half slaps some common sence on me every now and then... =/
