Funny thing is that dealer that I was talking about that has 41 doesn't even allow you to search the RX-8 in their inventory, but they have plenty of em. Seems like Mazda is trying to hide just how plentiful they are.

They may be in plentiful supply in some areas....but RX-8 sales are not slowing. In fact, sales are up. Check this thread.

The may have been up for March but I think they are down for the year. That site doesn't mention how many more they sold.

Interestingly, 1/2 mile down the road there's a silver 04' Evo that doesn't seem to want to move from the Mitsu dealer. The Subie dealer next door can't keep the STI's for more than a few days, though.

In my experiece meeting drivers of each, there's LOTS of older diehard subaru fans that wanted to try something fast and already had the brand loyalty. For a couple grand more than a loaded standard Impreza, Outback or what have you, you've got the STI....
Uh..I guess you are a subie fan?

My local dealer has a large selection of '05s but only two corporate '04 demos (with 6000 miles) and no '04 leftovers. One of the sales guys there is an enthusiast who has a slightly modded RX8 himself goes to auctions looking for used ones; he can't find them (at the last auction he went to, there were 15 350zs and no RX8s). He also says there are very few leftover '04s nationwide (for what that's worth).

Not to be a wet blanket, but that thread links to an article showing a Feb '05 increase over Jan '05, which is to be expected; it's normal for a car like the 8 to see sales go up each month Jan > May. And the 8 is still selling below Mazda's initial 30k/year target in the USA.

Then again car sales are down in general, especially for the Big 3 (GM is in serious trouble). From what I've read, even though Asian manufacturers have increased share in the USA, their sales are down from last year (that's on average... it varies from brand to brand). Our mediocre economy and high fuel prices (for the USA) don't help a car like the RX8 either. So given the situation, the 8 seems to be doing OK.

2004 Desirable?

OK... this is my first post....just found this cite and it looks like a good one. I'm gonna buy in next 8 weeks in Bay Area. How does buying an 04 figure into depreciation; hmmmmn I hadn't considered an 04. I guess the answer to my question is that the discounts compensate?

The discounts/rebates should compensate and then some. Also, considering there are almost no differences between the 04 and 05 when you go to sell or trade in the car the miles will be a larger factor than what MY it is.

Ok, how is this...I agree that the discount should more then compensate for the value/resale differance. With the reflash, the performance is the same, and there have been no cosmetic changes between the years.....

Yes, another post!!
