$3k "Market Adj" for R3?!

So I was at Hiley Mazda in Arlington TX and they have a blue R3 with no extras. I look at the window and it has a $3,000 markUP as a "Market Adjustment". Has anyone seen anything like this anywhere else? Are R3s just flying off showroom floors in other places?

Bear in mind that Hiley was a key player in the mulligan video, guess old habits die hard...

I got my R3 for under MSRP, so look for them at other dealerships. Also, some are being ordered in advance, but the one I chose had been sitting out front of the dealership for a month...even had cobwebs in the wheel wells when I first looked at it.

I noticed a couple weeks ago that Casey Mazda in Newport News has a 2k market adjustment on ALL Mazda's, even the leftover 2008's now. "WTF?" was the only response I could think of, considering how the economy sucks these days (isn't everyone else practically giving away cars?). I always thought market adjustments were for popular, well-selling cars, not a way to gouge people just because nobody's buying cars.

You'd think that's how it works, but all you can do is avoid those dealers trying to rip off people more than the others.

To charge over sticker, by law, the dealer needs to add an addendum sticker. Since there were no extras added to the car, they must use the 'market adjustment' tag to raise the price.

It makes people feel good when they use it as a sales technique. That way, after you haggle off $3000, you feel really good about your negotiating skills and buy the car.

But the dealer just got you at sticker.

tell them it needs a -$5k adjustment for poor fuel mileage

I got my '05 at Hiley, the service dept is very good, but the floor will try to pull every sleazy auto sales tactic in the book, you'll have to wash the slime off after negotiating your deal

Hiley Arlington or Hurst? I've really enjoyed working with Hurst, but they're just too far for me. Arlington is much closer, but still having issues getting over the market adj.

By the way, props to me for getting a real reply from somebody of the standing of Team! And he's not even ripping me!

:D

I'll bet you a donut that, in a month or two, they will be "transacting" (as opposed to being offered at) invoice or close to it.

Hang in there, or find another dealer. It's not like there aren't many other good choices of cars out there, and loans are hard to find for many people.

This car should be able to be had for thousands off sticker. They might have not produced quite as many as the "regular" rx-8's but it is by no means rare. Plus, in my opinion it falls into the same category for negotiating as trucks and suvs (i.e. the **** poor gas mileage discount group) it blows my mind that they could actually mark these up. Probably the same dealers that marked up the 40th anniverasary when it came out and now that same car can be had for 4-5 k off sticker. There are still several 40ths sitting around here.

Of course there is always the sucker (which the dealer is hoping for) that will see "rare" or "limited" and just have to have it. I'd just wait till winter. No matter what they might tell you, these are by no means in demand and are not flying off lots. I'd actually lean more towards the side that says they can't even give them away right now becaue gas is still way too expensive.
