BTW, I bought my RX-8 a little over 2 weeks ago. The dealer showed me their original invoice (looks legitimate) and the assessment fee is listed in there. They were going to charge a doc fee for handling the local paper work(not the S-Plan paper work), but they waived that at the end. The assessment fee turned into more of a pursue for my curiosity. I was going to buy the car either way. Peace. :p

I purchsed through S Plan. Brought in the pricing sheet myself as backup, and was not charged anything else. I'm confused as to where the assesssment fee came from, I sure didn't pay it.
