Depends where you are located. IF you are in an area with tons of dealerships, check their inventory on Mazda's website. If there are hundreds of RX-8s in your area on lots, and especially if there are 2 or 3 that meet your specs, bargain more aggressively, as you should be able to get below invoice. Also, if you saw my thread in this forum on the $500 rebate for financing through Mazda, use that too, though mention it only at the end of the process after you have settled on a price.
If you are in an area with very few dealerships, then the price you are quoted is probably pretty good. Also, try going on the last day of the month to get the best deal - just remember that that $500 goes away after March.
Good luck!

Hey thanks for reply.
Im deciding if im going to get the car in Los Angeles or San Diego, there should be plenty of dealers in the area.
Btw about that $500 financing, i didnt see anything in the mazdausa website, you got any link to it?
oh also that was a price quoted over email at one of the LA dealerships, they said it was the "internet" price.

For LA actually, it may be a decent price - sports cars will go for a bit more in LA than they do here in SF. Like I said, check to see how many dealerships have the car you want, and then you'll know how aggressive you can be.
I have no link regarding the $500. My dealer told me, and I confirmed with Mazda.

hey thanks.
I got another question thought, i already asked it here but no one answered, maybe you can help.
I did my research, and i do qualify for the graduate student discount, however even thought i will be the primary driver of the car, ( AKA drive it 100% of the time), the car is going to be purchased under my moms name.
Why? because first her credit is way better than mine, and second insurance will be way cheaper for her, we have a beater car that is under my name, and since we all in the same policy we can drive each other cars without any problem, however how can i get the student discount, is it possible?

That's about $1500 below invoice. Do you have connections at Mazda or with a dealership, was the car a demo with a few hundred miles, or did you get the $1500 lease cash?

Hey one more thing, im not sure if this is the way to do this but
I will get a Eloan( capitalone, e-loan ) etc, if i do that, how do i make my downpayment?
do i write the blank check for the full amount of the car, and when i receive my first bill, i send the full quantity of my downpayment?
or i have to write 2 checks,? one from my personal account with my downpayment and the other eloan check with the remaining ammount?
any help will be appreciated.

E-loan should make out a check to the dealer - at least that's how a normal bank would do it. You then supply the remaining payment (your down payment) directly to the dealer by check, check+ credit card, cash, etc.

ot: i have heard that edmunds "invoice" price isnt really an "invoice price". the fact is that there are some secret/undertable deals between the dealers and Mazda.
not sure if thats true though :/
