$21.5k for '04 base AT RX-8??

Going tonight to test drive the car for a second time. It's an '04, base, AT w/rear spoiler. Sticker was $24,900 and they've already come down to $22k. I'm thinking of hitting them with $21.5 or even $21k. Any thoughts? Am I crazy to even pitch $21k? Thanks.

That thing is probably worth 17 or 18 tops. I got my '05 6MT GT for less than $24k....brand new!

Even with less than 1k miles its not worth that much. I paid 20,900 for my 04 6-sp base with only 1,800 miles on it back in November. With the '06s hitting the lots now it would be even cheaper.

I'm guessing if you really, REALLY want that car a good offer would be between 18-19k. They may act offended and say they can't do it but I bet they call within the month to finalize the deal.

Has to be said (look for a MT instead of AT).

Yeah, get the MT.

And the 21k is WAAAAY high. Start at $16k. If they want more than $17k walk away. Also, You'd be better off finding a 6 speed sport. You get the TSC and DSC then which you can't add later.

I'll vouch for the horrible price. I JUST picked up a Winning Blue 2004 GT w/ navigation, the aero package and quite a few other addons for 19.5. Keep bargaining for this one...

BTW this is my first post...Still exploring the forum...

Can't comment on the price on an 04, but I can say that I'm enjoying my 05 GT with AT. I got it about a month ago for 24,200. I think whether or not you will like the AT depends on what you expect out of the car. Obviously the MT is going to have more power to the pavement and accelerate better. But I was looking for a great handling and easy driving car. I have some chronic health problems and was looking for the easiest driving experience possible, plus I have some problems with coordination in my legs. So I went with the AT and am happy with it. But if you want more sportscar like acceleration go with the MT.

I think you are crazy if you pay that much for this car. $22k is way overpriced for a base model car this old. I think 17-18k, with 20k being the absolute max you should pay, is more realistic. Of course it depends on the mileage, but that's simply too expensive. That's only like 4-5k below original MSRP, and the car is already used, two+ years old, and has lost significant value. The problem with this is that if you purchased the car for this price, in that moment, you have car already worth about 4k less then you paid, and you haven't even driven it home yet. It's your call. Good luck!!

I got the same one with the sport package and 11k miles for $21,900. That was with a trade-in. That is a very, very, very, horrible asking price. Tell them to kiss your *** and then go somewhere else.

DO NOT buy that car for that price. You WILL regret it.

Make sure you get one with traction control and dynamic stability control. Leather seats and a sun/moon roof is a tasty option too.

www.autotrader.com has WAY BETTER deals.
Try www.cars.com too.
