In my humble opinion, HDR is overplayed. Everything just seems so inorganic about it. It was cool when people started real HDR photos a few years ago. Now it's all over with automatic synthetic filters like instagram. I say keep the cover as sedate as possible.

^^^ true, people substitute good quality techniques for shitty filters all the time, a well staged photo will never need to be 'enhanced'
I understand where you guys are coming from. But look, honestly it doesn't matter if people are using filters, the main thing is as long as the picture looks good. So far all the images posted up look amazing and im sure a lot of them had to be filtered one way or another. If anybody wants to post up images that have not been filtered and they look good and get voted in then by all means that works for us too. Anyways, that is why we will have voting at the end, and take it from there.
I am certainly not a good photographer like the rest of you but here are my submissions
I like the idea and wanted to subscribe to thread even if I can't shoot like the rest of you!

PS: I have high resolution photos of these but no clue how to post them here... these are very poor quality compaired to the real ones. Any hints to post them?

What lesper4 is referring to is HDR = High Dynamic Range. Not High resolution. Resolution has to do with DPI = Dots Per Inch... this basically deals only with printing. HDR is bracketing exposures in order to attain all exposures over a certain scene. Photographically, this is used when there are very bright highlights and very dark shadows. A single exposure, even if the "correct" exposure, isn't always capable of exposing properly for these extreme values. Hence, the term high dynamic ranging. Unfortunately, due to instagram and the like, filters are being used by people that don't consider themselves a photographer. Nor do they care to be one, they just like the way the photos look. But, if HDR is used properly it can be a wonderful tool to create beautiful photographs.
Sorry, had to clear that up and get technical for a moment.

No problem. Thats fine by me. Appreciate your input.

I finished my shoot and posted my "best" images at the below thread:

Please take a look and provide some feedback as to which final images you think I should submit here.
Thanks,

Thank you. I did what I could with an ancient Canon Rebel XT (8.0mp) with turd 18-55mm kit lens. Of course I did some post editing on it as the color balance was completely off due to sodium lights in a dark alley. Poked around and found the perfect combo with said desaturation.
