Cops would probably give tickets to parked cars with no front plate because money is not being generated.

Government: where are you now? where are you now? where are you now? .....

pdxhak 06-21-2010 04:29 PM

I do not see how this could get passed. The state would make money off your personal property. How is this any different then the state passing a law to use the side of your house as a bill board?

FoxeyL8y 06-21-2010 04:31 PM

hmm maybe they could swing it that the PLATE is state issued and mandatory...

TANKERG 06-21-2010 04:38 PM

and what if your car is advertising something that you politically, religiously, or personally disagree with?

FoxeyL8y 06-21-2010 05:01 PM

dunno... yea i want to kick whoever came up with this...

Got pulled over about 3weeks ago in KS and my car is registered in MO and plate was in the front wind shield. Ticket was 65 bucks. Im driving from stl to ks to fight it tomorrow. The KS cop enforced a MO law in KS. Cant be done. But its the first time.

actually this is what the law reads:

The vehicle license number plates shall be attached conspicuously at the front and rear of each vehicle
i think you can argue that dash is conspicuous enough..

TANKERG 06-22-2010 08:01 AM

^whatever became of your plateless ms nose ticket?

Phil's 8 06-22-2010 08:24 AM

In Nevada only a rear plate is required. Presently the state supplies both a front and rear but do not ticket you if you choose to not run the front. You do get looks if you have an empty bracket in the front so those that choose not to use one remove the bracket. The law on our book says "shall properly desplay the plate in the appropiate place(s), with appropiate lighting for night viewing".

But you can't argue against the fact that the dash is not the front of the vehicle. It is the middle. Our 8 isn't a VW bus after all. that WOULD be the front :)

That plus the dangers of a plate flying around and injuring or killing occupants in an accident.

And yes, it has happened, and not rarely. If my state allowed interior placement of the plate, I would use good quality suction cups in the mounting holes of the plate and fasten it to the inside of the windshield that way.

But the dangers of a plate flying aren't worth tossing it up there to try to avoid a $85 ticket.

I'll pay the $85. Or rather, put it on the front, show up to court, pay the $35 in court costs, and take it off when I get home.

+1 The state interprets the front and rear to mean the front-most or rear-most mountable point. This is also used against motorcycles when the plate is further back under the tail. They want it at least behind the rear axle, but preferably at the very rear. It always depends on the individual LEO somewhat.

It also could be argued that putting the plate behind the glass is inconspicuous because of the glare from the angle of the glass. Same basic reason plate covers, tined or clear are not legal.

I used to run without a front plate on my rx7, but that car seemed to draw alot more attention than my 8.

Anybody been busted for no front plate?

I got busted and warned before that like 2 or 3x. Always had tons of questions when crossing at the border as well.

STL05 06-22-2010 04:49 PM

Yeah missouri law states that the front plate has to be fixed to front. I was in Kansas just across the state line. Kansas only runs a back plate unless its a personalized plate which you run both front and back. In court in kansas it was thrown out because the kansas cop cant enforce a missouri law pertaining to license plate location so i didnt have to pay anything. It was only 65 bucks but its still in my pocket.

well i really had no plate at that time so the court said i still had to pay a reduced fee of $85. what i want to know is if it'll hit my insurance or not. if not then i'll never run it :mdrmed:

Bignatex 06-22-2010 06:24 PM

lol its a non moving violation so it should never hit insurance. which is why i wont run it.. and i have WA plates in missouri so they will be so lost anyway, well till august but then ill roll to WA in MO plates hahahahaha
