Who runs front plateless? Whos been busted?
So, I'm noticing alot of you guys around here run without front plates. Who here runs without one?
I used to run without a front plate on my rx7, but that car seemed to draw alot more attention than my 8. Anybody been busted for no front plate? |

I've been plateless since I bought the car. It didn't come with a bracket so I just put it in my front window. Lol
NeVeR !
Im switching back to a MI plate in a few weeks when i get back from Iraq for leave.
no need for front plates in GA ; )
After getting stopped twice in a couple of weeks, I put my plate back on. It's $48 here in New Jersey and the local police are keeping an eye on me now, trying to crack down on my own personal crime wave.
I never have liked the look of having the front plate on my car. Be that as it may, here in Oregon there just isn't a way to legally get around it. Thousands and thousands of stories exist about 'running for XX number or years without' or 'pulled over XX times' exist. It all a roll of the dice and personal choice. Wondering if the cop I just passed is going to decide to bother me while I try to come up with a creative excuse just isn't worth it. I have better ways to spend my time.
The answer - run a front plate. It does not statistically reduce your chance of getting laid. |

i think it's because the rx8 looks so natural without a front plate that cops mostly do realize it lol's
^like Corvettes
I got a ticket so after I crashed my front bumper I just drilled holes and have it ziptied on underneath the driver side oil cooler hole
In Texas they cannot pull you over for not having a front plate, they have to stop you for a moving violation.
^fuck texas ;)
I've been plateless in WA for the last year. I actually got a speeding ticket the other day and the officer was super cool and didn't write me a ticket for the plate (he also gave me a ticket for 65 in a 60 instead of the actual speed I was going).
^must be the RPF1s ;)
Here in Illinois, I have never received a ticket for not having on the front plate. I have received written warnings while a speeding ticket was being written. I put it on to avoid that hassle. You may catch a officer on a bad day and he could write you for it.

Yeah, I was born in San Bernardino, sister just moved back from San Jose a couple years back and I spent time in school in San Diego in Navy. Can't say that I miss it much though in terms of living there but it is nice to go as a tourist. |
I run without one and have only received a warning once.
You can however apply for an exemption from the law in WA: Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 46.16.240 states in part, “The vehicle license number plates shall be attached conspicuously at the front and rear of each vehicle . . . PROVIDED HOWEVER, that in cases where the body construction of the vehicle is such that compliance with this section is impossible, permission to deviate there from may be granted by the state patrol. . . .” A waiver is only issued if it is not possible to affix a front license plate due to the body construction of the vehicle. Therefore, if there is a license plate bracket made for the vehicle which may be affixed to the vehicle allowing for the font license plate to be displayed, you will be required to install it on your vehicle whether or not it requires you to drill holes. If after researching you cannot find a license plate bracket that will work for your vehicle, you can apply for a front license plate waiver for your vehicle. These waivers are looked at on a case by case basis based on the original manufactured version of the vehicle and its ability to affix a front license plate. To request a front license plate waiver please write a letter articulating why you feel you should be exempt from the law, include a picture of the front of the vehicle, your license plate number, vehicle identification number (VIN), vehicle make and model, and any additional information you feel would outline your case and send to: Washington State Patrol Equipment & Standards PO Box 42600 Olympia WA 98504-2600 Once the letter is received our office will research the availability of license plate brackets for your vehicle, review your case, and send you a letter with the decision. |
well that exemption obviously wont work for the rx8 since a bracket is available.
I have to write a check and send it in the mail before the 20th for this.
It was super lame. I didnt have a front plate for two and a half years on this car and 4 days before i move across the country to a state that doesn't have a front plate law i get busted. I've tried fighting it but they wont remove the charge... |

I've gotten tagged for it once. It's a secondary offense in RI, so they have to pull you over for something else. In this case, the officer claimed I didn't use my blinker...which he was lying, since I saw him whip the u-turn (I was doing 18 in a 25 school zone), and knew it was for me, and made sure I didn't give him a reason to pull me over. The only lane change I did I left my blinker on for like 15 seconds. When he said he pulled me over for "no plate and not using my blinker", I responded that I sure did use my blinker, I saw him pull the u-turn and wasn't going to give him another reason, he shrugged ignored it, and wrote me up for the plate. $85 ticket I could pay, or bring the 8 to court in 30 days to show I have the plate on it for no charge.
Well, I stop by the court on the appropriate day with my plate on, the officer at the door stops me and asks why I was there, I told him it was for a no plate ticket, and he says "well, I'm sure you wouldn't be dumb enough to show up without it on. Charge dismissed, go pay the cashier $39 court costs." I hadn't even gotten in the door. And the cashier only accepted cash, which I didn't have, and there isn't an atm within walking distance. Only other option is to go online and pay online, which tacks on another $15 sur charge. I was more than a bit irritated at the blatant grab for money. I still run without a plate. |

Been plateless since I bought the car last May. Haven't been pulled over since having the car registered in this state, although typing this guarantees my luck is up. I do, however, have the OEM bracket in my garage. Found out that the fasteners it came with only has one screw to attach it to the bumper (isn't there supposed to be two?). I just don't like the idea of punching holes in the car. Also, a front plate ruins the looks.
only got busted for plates once on my 8 but was cause i was fucking around, went to pick up my bro from high school, talked to school deputy signed off my ticket without even looking at my car
i've been driving around without a front plate for like year and a half now and haven't been pulled over since.

Suck for you all...

"I'm out there and lovin' every minute of it." Not been a problem, even when getting an annual inspection (I just show them the front plate stored in the trunk).
MA may soon be reverting to a single plate as a cost cutting measure anyway. |
I got hit after the practice day. Picked out of the middle of the pack. We locked eyes and it was all over.
When I think of locked eyes I think of the song "I jizzed in my pants". ^ yea, you about got f'd
My winter beater has no front plates due to a concave front end and just would be a PITA to create someway to get a frame on there.
2+ months, so far so good. I plan on using a motorized license plate holder from Swift Motorsports that conceals it under the front end and if I get pulled over I'll just activate it to come out and ask the officer to check again :D: |
lol i was walking out to my car on the street a few months back and saw parking enforcement.. i was like huh whats going on here. so i walk up and ask the officer what she is doing and she says you dont have a front plate she hads me the ticket. i say wait yes i do. i show here my plate inthe window and she says ooh i didnt see that. i was like yeah my car didnt come with a plate bracket and there is no way to put my plate to my bumper with out obstucting the airflow for my intake thus creating overheating and car troubles. she was like very well takes the ticket back and writes void smiles and drives off :)

Never have any problem with out the place for more than 3 years...
These are both slick but I like the first one better. The second one may work with my front lip though.

That 2nd one is exactly the one I mentioned previously and have myself. Just waiting on deciding what aftermarket front end I want to get to put on for spring and then install it.
The first one is a modified version.
I have for 12 years. Oh wait. I live in Arizona. We don't have front plates. Never mind.
Easy you trying to piss us off :lol2:
I have been plateless for years. I have gotten 5-6 written warnings and one ticket. the ticket was from a meter maid.
I still do not run front plates. they are just there for revenue generation via traffic cameras. |

you must not live in chicago huh? park anywhere in the loop during business hours and expect a ticket. park anywhere around the clubs on the weekend and expect a ticket. park on the street in front of your house and expect a ticket. $50 bucks a pop. i have two tickets that have a hearing scheduled for tints on my front windows, which are now legal since october of last year. those are $250 each.
