ahhhhahhhhhhhhh,

the tpms should have never been removed unless you were changing wheels..

Thanks Swoope because that's what I thought. So........I wonder what the Sam hell they actually did? It seems as if I read it right, they took off the TPMS's(for no good reason) and then monkeyed around with them....perhaps trying to change the valves or something(because of what was said above a few posts ago), and then they proceeded to put them back on and got the grommet in the wrong place? William................does that sound right? I guess the good news is that they corrected it. I'm kinda afraid to ask and you may have already said, but what was the charge above and beyond the price of the tires and how are they holding up now?
YOu don't have to touch the TPMS's to change the tires except to put air back in after mounting.

the price was actually not too bad. total cost 590 bucks (including those 4 new valves) with $40 mail-in rebate. all tires seem to hold up fine so far. have not detected any lost of air pressure. i recalled reading a thread somewhere someone also had his tmps screwed up by discount tires. guess just keep fingers cross since different location seems to have different technic dealing with tmps sensors.

Well...at least you're up and running. We all live and learn, and I learn something new everyday! You're probably alright now.............seems like they just somehow didn't put the grommets back on in the right places. Lucky it seems as if they didn't deform them or you'd still be fighting the issue.

The little rectangular metal bits are the balancing weights. There's usually quite a few of them on there because of the TPMS sensors, but every tire is different too, so moving those around doesn't seem all that out of the ordinary. The entire strip that Mazda installed at the factory was replaced with a single small clip on all of my wheels when I had the tires changed. Balance is perfect, so it shows just how out of balance the tires themselves actually are. Believe me, if you had a problem with your wheel/tire balance, you'd know it real quick. The car would become VERY difficult to handle at speed.

^+1..................those rectangular things are the balancing weights on the rims and will have to be moved everytime you re-mount a tire.
They have nothing to do with the TPMS's wich are located on one end of you valve stem and the sit INSIDE the rim where you can't see them with the tire on the rim.
