Just recieved a reply from Steve. It looks like he is trying to acquire the software as we speak. He said that he should have it in 2-3 weeks. I will keep you all posted.

All right, its time for me to knock over a bank or two. I have way too many parts to get by the end of May. So, whos with me? j/k, sort of.

Not really sure what to do. If I was boosted - maybe. But if I was boosted with either the MM hair dyer, or the Cam blower - Jeff has both those mapped already. I think Steve is better suited for big HP tubos - or one of a kind customs, dunno. Just my thoughts.

I was thinking since MM recently spent the day with Steve that he would have shown him the AP and some tunes and that he (Steve) could further tune the maps to our specific cars.

price is 350-600 plus dyno time. Usually 85-170.

I really don't know the market for 8's, but on many 7's we do not have that luxury. A lot of the kits are for FD's or FC's with basically no mods. What fun us that

If you run a kit with a map that is tuned specifically for that setup I am sure that you would be just fine. Many 7's are frankenbuilds though. I have a little bit of every generation on my car. Even the RX8.

Just keep in mind - Steve has been trying to get a Cobb arrangement going for years and still doesn't have the software.
His main interest, ultimately, are the G35 and 350Z.

He and I spent a fair amount of time talking about the AP and OE tuning. There may be a bit of experiment time involved for anyone that has him tune their '8 at this point.

Unless you want tunes that work!
I'm sure he'll get it all figured out.

Interesting. Can you elaborate? Is there a reason Cobb did not release the software to him? Steve has been into rotary powered cars for quite some time. Do you mean his recent interests?

Well, last I spoke with him (3 weeks ago), he had not signed an agreement with Cobb for their Pro network. I'm not totally sure of the reason for that.
However, since Steve drives a G35 now and has a primary interest in that market, I'm sure that the VQ will be his main interest.

Cobb is very selective about their tuner network. Even an extremely capable and reputable tuner like Steve Kan has to go through the same vesting as a schmuck like me.

Just ordered the pro tuner for the Rx8 and beta accessport for the G35 yesterday. The main reason I have not gotten the agreement signed was mainly because I was in the process of making a standalone for the Rx8 with another company. However, I decided against it because the standalone will cost 2.5x the price of the accessport.
I had previously tried to become the pro tuner for the Subaru market but didn't think it was worth the initial investment so I waited and waited until now.

Well, welcome aboard!

I finally got a chance to play with the Hydra a few days ago. Pretty sweet, but definitely over-kill for this market (and, as you say, way too expensive).

how's going jeff? Hydras are nice but not worth it unless someone is very serious on getting the most hp out of the car. I figured Accessport is good to around 350rwhp (MAF limited) so it will work for almost everyone.

Speaking of Hydra, just tuned a supercharged Celica GTS yesterday with the hydra on 90 octane fuel. It made a whopping 195fwhp and 140fwtq.

LOL... He seemed happy with it. Hydra is the only ECU that will work on the Celica with the drive-by wire so there were no other options.

It is a great box. Its nice that it interfaces with the AIM as well.
You can build some really powerful cars with it - if you want to spend the money.

So, have you started carrying around a spare AEM with you these days?
Maybe a coil pack or two? Maybe a set of injectors?
I bet you could make a killing at dyno days with all the bad installs out there...

$400 - $900 is too rich for my blood for minimal gains. I have no problem spending that type of money when I have more to tune Any issues with showing up to watch?

Crap, now this is a dilemma for me. I have been working with Jeff, on long distance, on my Cobb NA tune, and now Steve is coming.... What to do what to do...

I want to keep the relationship going with Jeff if I change things, but maybe this is a too good to pass up. Care to tune a NA RX8 Steve? It's modified as much as you can modify a NA. The only mod I do not have, are headers, (or porters in our case )
