Smile Status on my ticket...

Some of you saw my post just after Christmas where I got a ticket coming back from Canada, between Stanwood and Arlington on I-5. I got caught doing 81 in a 70, but the cop let me go for 80 to keep the cost down. It had taken 3 hours to get across the border and I was supposed to have my daughter's boyfriend home at a certain time for a family dinner, plus we all had to pee really bad and were trying not to stop... blah blah blah.

I wanted to contest it, but also didn't want to have to drive back up to Arlington to save a few bucks off the $96 ticket (I owned the speeding of course!). So I wrote a note with my check and sent it in, not really expecting a response.

Today I received a check from the Snohomish County District Court with a refund of $31!!! Wow, I'm surprized!

(If any of you pulled some strings for me thanks!)

Thanks. Which one - the shark or the Cars-8? I've used a few the last couple of days because I was bored. The "Cars" version of my 8 really belonged to someone else and I forgot about it, so, out of respect to them, I'm back to one of my favorites again.

Pretty much just what happened and the fact that I'd like to contest the ticket due to the circumstances, but it would be difficult to get back up there to do it. At the time I wrote it I was really frustrated at the 3 hour border experience, so I thought, what the heck... I'll just say something and see what happens. When they cashed my check, I figured that was the end of it, and that was a few weeks ago...

So I guess you could say the refund was really an early Valentine's gift

Thank you Snohomish County District Court!

I grew up in Arlington. I probably went to school with your judge's daughter (or the cop that pulled you over). I go up there monthly to visit family.

Its sad the way they have gotten draconian in speed enforcement around there- people are afraid to even do 70 on I-5. I used to be able to bomb down to Everett without seeing a cop or having to drop below the speed limit, and now its 3 minivans abreast going 65 in the 70 zome. At least the judges actually consider write-ins there. The only ticket I ever got up there was 12 years ago for following too close. Around here you just get ignored and fined the full amount no matter what.

Something to keep in mind if it ever happens again is that you can request a transfer of the case to your local court. Though if the officer refuses you'd have to write that you were refused on the ticket before signing and show up to their court to make the request again.

Good to know, thanks. For now, I just put it on cruise control when I go through those areas. I don't need/want any more tickets!

Ha ha... interesting. I know what you mean about the 3 minivans abreast. That's pretty much what happened to me. I didn't see any way to get around them until the right lane opened and I went for it. That's what he was waiting for I'm sure. Oh well, live and learn!

Sorry to hear it. You're missing some great drives! How long will you be there? Did your fiance get transferred too?

Yes we are both here, i get to be here for 3 years, but eventually try to go back to whidbey island, we like it there.
I gotta tell yah, i drove cross country in my 8 and it behaved like a champ! i made it from WA to FL in 4 days (had to go to school there for a couple of weeks) and from FL to MD in 2 (i took my sweet time coming up here).
