Painted Calipers *pics*

The rust was driving me nuts So I finally got around to painting the calipers and rotor hubs. The process is really simple but you plan on taking a while. I will not bore you with a how to becasue there are many threads on them. And I suck at writing them.

Very nice! I have the paint to do mine a shade of purple (the color is actually called "Lively Lavender"... ha ha.. no laughing! ), but I'm having 2nd thoughts... I'll prolly go black or silver/dark gray. Marquis and I are going to paint ours at the same time and have the RX8 decals also.

Thanks guys! I really like how it turned out. The painted calipers and hubs really clean up the look of the wheels becasue you no longer notice the rust. Hopefully soon the car will make it to the bodyshop to have the new front, sides and spoiler painted and mounted I know the wife wants the BIG box out of the garage. LOL

I thought about putting on the rx-8 decal but could not wait any longer. They are easy to add so maybe.

They just stick right on. I put mine on when the paint was fresh ,like 10 minutes after applying the final coat of red. I think it helped them stick a little better. As they have not deteriorated any at all.
I just wish they had a chrome looking sticker. That would be nice.

BG, Is your 8 2006? I believe they painted them silver starting in 2006.

this has to be the best bang for your buck aesthetic mod you can do to the RX-8. I did painted mine red on my Ti and have actually gotten the comment "Those red brakes just make it look so fast" three different times. My mom even commented on them when she was driving next to me on the highway.

Yup, 2006's come with silver'd calipers (my 8 is an 06). But I still hate that the rotors get rusty when they get wet or when the brakes squeek after being left out in the rain or cold. Those problems been bothering me a bit so my next upgrade for my 8 with be a new set of rotors and brake pads. Just upgraded my exhaust with the MazdaSpeed dual exhaust last weekend so it'll be a few months before I can pony up a new set of brake rotors and pads.

Awesome job on the calipers by the way.

You definitely want to use caliper paint because it has a much higher heat tolerance. You can buy a caliper paint kit that comes with paint, brush and brake cleaner. I bought a brass wire brush to scrub down the calipers and hubs. The paint was applied with the brush that came with the kit.

The rust bugs the crap out of me! You can see the rust materialize after washing the car. This was just an inexpensive stop gap until I upgrade. I plan to keep the same size rotors and use the OEM calipers with better pads.
