Cool October Drive

Sun, 21 Oct 2007 Haunted Highway Hustle
Sunday Drives
Poster Kristopher_d Registered 15 Sep 2007 21:13 (67 hits)

A rolling costume party and trip to Bavaria all in a single afternoon. We're making the trip to Leavenworth just in time for the end of Oktoberfest. The route is changed from last years.

Event Start 09:00
Registration Closed 20 Oct 2007 09:00
More info will be forthcoming in the next couple of days. Items of note, October in the mountains is too darned cold for a BBQ, so we'll be finding a restaurant to host us.

Driver, Navigator, and Radio operator, are all in for this!!!
I hope the weather is good by then!!!
and I hope you don't mind me posting this here Kristopher!!!

I'm excited now. Another excuse to wear my Halloween costume!!!! Yay!!!!!

I'll be trying to make this one. I'm not overly thrilled about the 9 a.m. part, but oh well. I think I'll live.

Normally, I'd say slim to none. However, this is a la nina year, so who knows. I still think it's rather low. Snow usually waits for mid-late November before it collects in any quantity or causes trouble on the highway.

Just wondering because we had snow up by Mt. Rainier weekend before last.

Darren, with the Ferrari, is thinking about going, so he asked.

There really shouldn't be any, but they did get a bit last week at Steven's pass. The route we're taking to get to Leavenworth never gets quite that high. However, we might have to modify our return route if there is weather.

1 Week to go. We have 6 cars registered, and a couple more have provided verbal notice.

Saw Darren with the Ferrari last night - he's definitely thinking about it. His parents are in town and he wants to take his dad with him this time, and then have his wife and mother meet them in Leavenworth.

Wow Shaun - that should be fun. Maybe it's time to do mine...

Sounds like you live by Smokey Point, so you need time to make it to Lake Easton Park, which is over Snoqualmie Pass, by roughly 9am-ish. We leave at 10am, make it to Leavenworth for lunch around noonish, then head back. We end in Sultan, which is still going to be a distance from home, but prolly closer to you than me.

Normally on these drives, I plan on being away from home from 8am to 6pm at the latest. I have a dog who can't go much more than that without being let out.

Yeah, that should about cover it, maybe shifted an hour forward for you.

With the 10am starts, we've been making lunch closer to noon. I expect to be back in Sultan around 3, but who knows what kind of traffic we may hit coming down. It may be closer to 4.

Kristopher, Darren needs to be back home to Kirkland to get ready to leave and be at the airport for a 5pm flight. Would he have enough time to go to lunch with us and turn around and go home? What is the fastest way back from Leavenworth and how long would it take?

Boy, that'd be really close. If he simply heads out Hwy 2, it should be about 2 hours, getting him home between 3 and 4, depending on traffic both coming and going.

Are they still recommending folks arrive 2 hours before their flight?

He has to be at the airport by 5 at the latest, but I'm sure he'd want to stop by his house and switch cars, then they have to drive from Kirkland to SeaTac. I would think he'd want to be home by 3:30 just to be safe. If he left Leavenworth by 1, that's cutting it too close I think.

Do you think he could do a partial route and head home before lunch? If so, what would be a good route?
