o what caused the boom.. was it just the jets.. cause if they really did go that fast in a residental area.. that ***** unsafe... like i know in the navy the jets will do it but were in the ocean.. god that ***** dumb
I just wish I was one of the pilots
whats stupid about it?? besdies scaring the public.. they should either been at a higher altitude.. or went out towards the water then taken off.. which ouy know would take all of what 8 seconds at that speed...

The issue was at a lake, which by definition isn't out to sea. I am guessing the airbase they took off from is also somewhere on the land. Sonic booms are REALLY loud. Even if they pass by at VERY high altitude. 60,000 feet, about their service max ceiling, is still only about 10 miles.
It does make me wonder which is more "right" though: Protecting the commander in chief (when the military gets involved, stop thinking of him as a president you can't stand, cause to the military, he is the boss) when an aircraft breaking airspace restriction or keeping the public from getting a bit of a jump that isn't anything beyond what they get from going to see a scary movie.
"The president was assassinated today when a slow float plane crashed into his car. We had jets that could get there, but we didn't want to make anyone upset about noise, so we flew slowly and didn't get there in time"

Course they put the throttle against the bump stops.

Kind of funny, but about a month ago someone moved into my apartment complex that has a blue RX-8 identical to mine (it's not a GT, but otherwise the same). I don't know who it is yet since I've yet to the see the guy that owns it, but Robbie has. According to Robbie he lives upstairs in our building but I don't think so because he has covered parking in the building across from ours and I know they won't let you have covered parking unless you are in the two buildings in front of it because they wouldn't let me have one since our area was full (Robbie got one and won't share, but he pays the rent so I can't complain, LOL). Kind of sucks considering my work hours (I get off at 12:30 a.m.) because I have to park clear down at the other end of the complex and walk what seems like forever to the building.
I noticed that about the same time that guy moved in, that someone else with a blue RX-8 moved into the new apartments that just a block or two away.
Really, what are the odds of three blue RX-8s living within a couple blocks of each other?
