November Drive - Sun 12 Nov - Hoodsport-Quilcene
The votes are in and I need time to do the final planning, so here we are. Sunday, 12 November we'll be running Hwy 101 from Hoodsport to Quilcene. In and of itself this is a really short run, so I plan on tossing a run into the forest in the mix. From my preliminary checks, Poulsbo is the nearest town to Quilcene with anything in the way of culinary options. Plus, those of us from the East Sound area can take the Bainbridge Is ferry home. Final RV point of Potlach State Park (yes I'm fond of meeting at Parks, they attract less attention). Meet time will be around 10:00 with a departure around 11:00 as usual.

Located 12 miles north of Shelton, Wash., on the state's western side.
From Shelton:
Drive twelve miles north on U.S. Hwy. 101 to park entrance.
From Hoodsport:
Drive three miles south on U.S. Hwy. 101 to park entrance.

Woohoo!!! Thanks Kristopher! Will we be back at the ferry by 4 or 5?
Sounds like we find a restaurant along the way - anyone familiar with that area and know a good one?
Anyone in the Renton, Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, etc., area want to caravan to Potlatch State Park?

Count the three of us in also. Just let us know where to meet for the caravan.
I used to work around there so let me see if I can remember any good resturants once we get a more definative route.

I'll post the exact route tomorrow. My laptop died, so I don't have a computer at home right now. I'm at my folks' place at present, but my books aren't.

First, I've done some more digging, and while there are a few restaurants in Kingston, there's not much selection. Plus, a a few minutes drive between the meal and the boat ride will help reduce the sense of urgency that often makes a good meal less enjoyable.
So, the directions are:
Final Rendeazvou Point: Potlach State Park
From Potlach State Park, NORTH on Hwy 101 to Hamma Hamma Rd.
Hamma Hamma Rd WEST into the forrest to its end, then back to Hwy 101 (adds about 16mi, but how can we be that close and not venture into the forrest).
Continue NORTH on Hwy 101 through Quilcene to Center Rd.
Center Rd NORTH to Dabob Rd.
Dabob Rd EAST to Coyle Rd.
Coyle Rd SOUTH to Thorndyke Rd.
Thorndyke Rd NORTH to Hwy 104.
Hwy 104 EAST over Hood Canal Bridge to Hwy 3.
Hwy 3 SOUTH to Big Valley Rd.
Big Valley Rd SOUTH to Hwy 305.
Hwy 305 SOUTH to Poulsbo.
Still don't have a final EATING place yet, but I'll have one in the next couple of days.

Yeah, you wont make the game if you try to do the drive. Even skipping lunch, you're not likely to be back to Seattle in time. Though, the Bainbridge-Seattle Ferry docks about 3 blocks from the stadium.

Plans for the rolling caravan.
Where do the Renton Folks usually meet? Since I'll be driving right by, It'd be kinda nice to roll together.
Is there anyone coming from Bellevue northward that wants to caravan?
Anyone care to meet in Tacoma or Olympia?
Total drive time according to Live Local is 2 hours (little less) so I was planning to leave Redmond around 8.
Volney, any reccomendations for where to eat after the run, or do I need to do more research?

I can't think of any better place to eat on a car trip then A&W. I havn't been able to think of any great place to eat so we can do that or just play it by ear.
I do know that some of the areas in Kitsap by Shelton are prone to flooding so we may want to make sure that all the roads we want to use are open.

That sounds like a great plan.
So far I've confirmed that A&W is there and open on Sundays. There's a detour around part of 101 due to a Mud Slide.
I'm trying to find Phone numbers for the Mason and Kitsap County Departments of Transporation (or equivelent bodies).

Yes, the drive is still on! A little rain never hurt any one. A lot of rain bundled with a lot of stupidity has, but not just rain. The mudslide is 6 mi N of Shelton, and shouldn't be much of an inconvenience. At worst we may have to curtail some of the side-road driving, but from what I've found so far, we should be okay.
The only thing that keeps me off the road is frozen precipitate (snow/hail/sleat/slush/ice/etc).

I went out to DOT too. Here's what they said about part of our route:
US Highway 101 will remain closed over the weekend (November 11-12) in both directions near Sunnyside Road (six miles north of Shelton). On Monday, November 6, over 600 yards of debris covered the roadway as a result of a mudslide.
Detours are in place. Northbound, drivers can take Purdy Cut-Off Road. Southbound drivers can take State Route 106.
We probably need to stay tuned in case there are other bad spots due to this 2nd round of rain! (I just noticed today that the skylight in my guest bathroom has sprung a leak . Thankfully it's over the bathtub, so besides damage to the ceiling, I don't think it will be too bad. Looks kinda funny though, as the paint has a big bubble where the water is draining in from above.)
Here's the pic of the slide...

Is the caravan heading to the Potlatch Park finalized? I'll be driving from the Snohomish/Mill Creek area so let me know where and what time will this caravan meet to drive to Potlatch.
