wow,
what was you buy date. you must have been one of the first..
but the answer is you are under the 60k mile warranty. hopefully the dealer likes you..
and if you are that early build date.. you could have pp bolts that backed off..
or bent shift forks.
both problems on the very early cars..

well you might do some research.. i bet it is 09/08. but what do i know..
find out when the car was bought, the warranty was extended to 5 yr / 60 k miles. you might want to make sure the last recall was done.. call mazda na on this. the phone # is in the owners manual. btw, read that also.
and as the dealer does not seem to know what is going on. you might take some time to research, and read..
i would gladly take 10% of the money i just saved you.

No problem, Sky. How's it feel to have a proper clutch?
Guys, the only part of the warranty that was extended was power train, and clutch is drive train. The dealer tried to get Mazda to help him out, but this was one of those perfectly timed failures. I suspect the previous owner rode the clutch like a grandma.

It happened to me too....about three times if i remember it right...i've had my car for about 2 yrs now. I couldn't shift into 1st gear ...i had to like really force it in. what I did on second and third times was...i put it in second gear and put it back into first..that did the trick.....but it only happened like three times in about two years...so i'm kinda like ignoring it for now...heh....but I think i'ma try to have it checked at the lynnwood mazda when i go take it in for 30,000 tune-up. My car has about 31,000 miles on it.
By the way......has any of you guys took your car in for 30,000 tune-up? man...it's really expensive....the dealer is asking about 450 dollars...and i asked what they're going to do...they said...they're going to lube the suspension and fill up all the fluid and stuff....i asked them if they're going to replace the spark plugs...they said they will check and they won't if they're not needed to be replaced...it's like i'm going to have to pay 450 bucks just to have my car lubed up....thats crazy!!..but i just have to take it in eventually cuz there not many shops that handle rx8s but the dealers..it sucks!

Power!!
Check your owners manual about what is supposed to happen at 30K miles. You don't need to lube the suspension.
I think you're supposed to change the brake fluid. You shouldn't have to swap the plugs but most of us had to at that point. If they are charging $450 you should look up exactly what they are supposed to do in your manual and then find out EXACTLY what they are going to fix or replace for that money. That sounds like a lot.

As an example.........they were gonna charge my daughter about the same price for a 45k checkup on her 03 Hyundai Accent(of all things). You know what they were gonna do? Oil change with filter, air filter, inspect and top off all fluids. I asked her to get a definitive list of what they were gonna do........not even a lube of anything! Of course she's not doing it and when she's down here next month, I will do all of that and more, but Jeez!!!!!!!
