3500 isn't bad when you have the chance of them covering it after they inspect the motor imo..

That sounds more like it. I'm too lazy to get my receipt but $4700 comes to mind for the swap.

Why bother paying Mazda to rebuild the motor? If you're going to pay to rebuild it pay BHR or mazmart. They'll do a better job and build you a motor that will actually last, and cost less. You won't be under warranty anymore but it appears you're not at this point anyway so might as well get a better motor for less.

^ only cause he has a shot at them paying for the whole thing under warranty if mazda does the work. otherwise i agree with you

Yeah. I suspect that's a line of crap. They will have all the parts and make the sole decision. There's only one way that will go. It would need to be an agreed 3rd party mechanic doing the teardown for me to sign up for that suggestion. Once they have your money it's a much harder fight to get them to give it back to you.

At this point I think having a lawyer write a letter to the dealership would be money well spent.
