Crack in my windshield.

F'ing dump trucks for the third runway at SeaTac.

Would a standard auto glass repair place (like Speedy) have a windshield to fit an 8 or does one have to go to a Mazda dealer? Insurance will be paying and I want something that is OEM equivalent. Any suggestions (besides firing RPG's at the dump trucks) would be appreciated.

 

Any decent glass shop will have the windshield. Just make sure it's a PPG winshield. (OEM equivalent) Some shops like safelite have there own windshields. I'd stay away from those. They are cheaper. I share a building with Harmon Auto Glass. They use nothing but PPG products.

 

Speedy also uses PPG windshields. The Speedy down the street from us does great work.

 

Good god what hit you to cause a 14" crack?? Where you on I5? That could of been real nasty, glad your OK.

 

Thanks for the input Wndotinter. I will check into Speedy. I wonder if the replacement glass has the same "black dot" shading on the top above the rear view mirror. I find that effectively hides my radar detector.

Nemesis8: Actually my wife was driving when it happened. She was on highway 167 (Valley Freeway) in Auburn. A rock hit the glass and left a ding with the start of crack (about 1/2 inch on either side of the ding). The next day, the crack grew to its present size. I wonder if the combination of cold outside air and the hot defrost air caused a thermal stress in the glass which caused the crack to grow so quickly?

I guess that's what I get for letting my wife drive my baby.

 

At least it was a small rock.. Just think if it was one of those California boulders!

It should. And i'm sure it was a thermal stress crack. I've seen it too many times.
