Heyy, so on Sunday I was driving my 04, and the Check engine light comes on. So I get home, check all the fluids and stuff. No funny noises or driving problems...but I take it to Gregs Japanese auto just to be sure.

They charged me $90 just to look at it. And then they said that it was the "Manifold Shutter Valve". And the air intake. Evidentally it has gunk in it, or something...he wasn't very clear. And they need to replace it along with some gaskets or something?? I asked how much and he said $900! I am not sure what this entails on a rotary engine. He said that my car will be slower to accelerate if I keep driving. But I'm not gonna get anything done on it until I have researched all my options.

Anyone know about this at all?? Or know what I can do to avoid paying that obsene cost?? Waaaaa.

Suspect...Try University Mazda. They will give you a proper diagnosis and clean up your intake tube and MAF sensor. If your APV is stuck they have a way to try and free it up without taking the intake apart.
