You can find them as low as $120 online, it was $152 after tax from Eastside Motor Sports.

What the difference is between a Snell SA2005 and M2005 certification for a helmet?
All Snell tests for these specifications include multiple impact tests at 78 degrees (dry and wet) and 120 degrees. The Snell M2005 specification is the base for the specs. The SA2005 used primarily for auto racing adds not only the thicker shield, but also the use of flame retardant paint, trim, retention strap and interior. The Snell SA2005 helmet also meets an additional rollbar impact test.

Ha, so you're full on the Stig.
So Chuckanut was an experience. I took 2nd in class with first almost a full second ahead of me in a supercharged Mk I MR2... but in Novice, there were a bunch of STI's that were absurdly fast for being in Novice. One of them was a full 2 seconds faster than me. The course though...
So the runway was less than half as wide as the one in Bremerton and fastest time of the day was 1:07.something, while I was 1:14.511. Doing it right, about half of the course was in 1st gear but my fastest time came when I ignored the place in the middle it made sense to downshift and just concentrated on my lines. I had a hard time stay clean and I think I picked up a scratch on my bumper that's going to be permanent, we'll see when I clean it off (too tired now + enjoying a cold beer).

I took a few pics of the grid, don't remember if I took any of the course but I worked radio in the quietest section of the course and one of my course workers took pics of everyone in that run group as they went by. We covered a turn around cone that got hit a couple times but that was the 3rd worker's responsibility to pick up. I'll post them when I get home from work tonight.
The next Chuckanut event is June 21st, SCCA events will take precedence for me but not BSCC.

I went into speedware but basically he only had much nicer helmets and I wasn't looking to throw down $900 just yet. I kinda figure that at $150 I won't feel bad if I replace it after a year with something a lot nicer and full faced (pretty sure PIR would want me to wear a full sock because of the facial hair, so if I start tracking I'll need more anyway).
The chin guard does sit really low, which I like because it means I can actually talk and not sound like I'm talking through a sock. I think I'm going to "Decorate" mine some because EVERYONE has this helmet. I counted 5 other people with it at the Chuckanut event so it's going to be worse at other events.

Power!!
www.saferacer.com has some pretty good deals. You might check them out. I got my gloves there pretty cheap.
I was at the wwscc event in Sheldon this weekend. It was definitely a good time. Mike was there as well. I took second in novice the second day (behind a guy in a 911). I spun off the tarmac the first day so I was DSQ'd for the day. But I was in the lead at the time.
I definitely need some new tires and a new fuel pump. I was getting fuel starve every time I had a left hand 180 sweeper. I basically had to baby it through the corner. I figure I can get a 1/2 second for a fuel pump and hopefully a couple of seconds with some decent tires.

k, well, better late than never, here are my pics from Blaine: http://pics.dpsubs.org/Chuckanut_5-31-2009/
This 323 took FTD, and he was at Packwood both times I've been and laid the smack down there as well. He was described to me as a Track Rat. Cool phrase, I want to be called one some day
Over all it was a very diverse grid that was predominantly cars around my age. Take a look at the full album to see what I mean.
Yah, he was a full 15 seconds slower than me
That's the start line up ahead... the condition of this runway left much to be desired
Seriously, this is out in the middle of the course:
All that said, these guys won me over with their attitude, I'll probably hit up a few more of their events this summer.
Oh, and their Trophies > SCCA Pint Glasses

Someone else posted their pics here: http://picasaweb.google.com/anton86/CSCCBlaine3 His name was Mike and he and his gf were driving his turbo'ed 1991 Miata. Total homebrew kit, he said it cost him like $1600 from start to finish
I wonder why we keep seeing so many 914's suddenly?
This group of Subbies came up from Seattle too. There was a white STI that was very quick, 2 seconds faster than me on nicer tires, but they all ran in Novice so I didn't have to compete with them
Here's his Miata
I think this is him driving it for his best time of the day, 1:15.3 (mine was 1:14.5, FTD was 1:07.3): http://picasaweb.google.com/anton86/...19482130918994
Funny how it's mostly the modern cars worrying about heat soak...
So that's the start line + the sweeping first turn. This course was very narrow, never more than 2x as wide as this! Screw up and you're in the grass every time.
Tightest freaking turn around ever! 1st Gear was a must, and I got up to 50 something on the sweeper leading up to it so I had to downshift every time
That was one very fast MK I MR2... I think. I might have the color wrong, there were like 5 of them and I know 1 of them was faster than me by almost a second and took 1st in my class. That one was Supercharged but not all of them were.
This guy **** gas out his filler tube first time he took the turn around... scared the crap out of me so I radioed it in... guess the hose was just loose
