2004 Renesis?

Hey guys,

I realize this might be a repeat post of something, but I hate a question about the 2004 RX8 Renesis engine. I've heard that that engine isn't quite as good as the later years which were released of the RX8. Is this true, or are people just yanking my chain about the RX8's?

Thanks!

-Mike

there is no difference they just had a few recalls for that year and 05 like the starter cause it was weak and the battery i think... aswell as the coils in 04 and 05 other than that its the same.. there are less problems reporting with the newer ones because people got more familiar with the renesis as time passed and learnt from mistakes others did with their 04 and 05 models.. if ur worried about the motor just do a compression test best way to find out if its good check the spark plugs and coils to see how its been taken care of, look for the coil to have burn marks and same with the plugs..

There were a lot of recalls. Several ECU flashes, bigger batteries, bigger starters and even with them, I've yet to meet an '07+ who has ever flooded theirs. Now maybe that last part is a volume thing, but it's still anectdotal evidence that maybe the new ones are better.

Ecu changes were made over the years as well, not sure how signficant they've been in terms of performance but in general, it's pretty hard to tell the different years apart unless you know what to look for ('04's have a black washer fluid container instead of clear, for instance).

lol i think the washer fluid affects the engine a bit :p , but yes anjio is right about the reflashes aswell.. mine is an 06 i have 19 000 miles on it so far so good no issues except almost died once at idle, but i put in some injector cleaner ran it hard then nothing since then..

Alright, well the search still continues for a car then. My friend just sent hers into the dealership to get fixed and I don't get to drive it for a couple of days :-(

But I can find a lot of RX's just not really that many in the price range I'm looking for. I want to spend about 13k on one, but they all have scary high milage on the engines as well. I don't know where else to look in this area for one, but I'm hoping something comes up soon. I'm going crazy :-S

I'm willing to drive in state, but I want to be able to get to it, drive there, and if it doesn't work out, not have a disappointing 4 hour drive home :-S

There is nothing wrong with the '04. What was wrong, was Mazda toying with the OMP to get CAT life, at the expense of under oiling the apex seals. If you find a low mileage '04, there are ways to make it run. You are just going to have to push up your sleeves and work on it.

Mine has been a faithful daily driver since 09/03.
