V8 rx8s are fast no doubt. But since there is so much more toque and hp available, on track, the attention you have to pay to the throttle is much different. It is not fair to compare…it is just a different car. I don’t think one is better than the other, it just depends on what you want.
Good news on the high pressure pump location! Thanks for that. I spoke with Andrew and there may be a way to squeeze the overkill system in. We don’t know for sure until all date is in. He is really busy now.
Folks are right about the Dyno’s 300 rwhp is not easy to come by. Even in the lfx swapped Miata’s it remains in the 270-290 range. The torque is nice though. Most say that the engine just gives out up top. With the newer designed cylinder heads that have slightly larger valves and a little larger intake/ exhaust ports does give it approx 15 - 20 rwhp. The mace cams can’t really lift the valves higher( piston / valve clearance) they just keep them open just a tad longer and that is one reason you don’t get a large amount of power from them like you would when swapping the ls7 cam.
But, this engine DOES respond well with forced induction. The Cadillac twin turbo model for example. That engine also has revised cooling pathways for increased cooling around the combustion chamber etc. It has other modifications also that unfortunately does not just swap over to the lfx like the oil pump itself is part of the oil pan.
This adventure is continuing and I will continue to update when news is available. I have to look at the right clutch/ flywheel combo. I know of one race build that successfully mated the lfx to a bmw DCT!
