Ash: Instead of blowing up Zoom's inbox (since he's the only active admin) I thought it best to have an open conversation here about how some of us feel regarding the new subforum.
Do I think it's a great idea? YES. Engine swaps will become more popular over time, same as the 7club crowd
Do I think the name is good? No, not at all.
As for you guys working for nothing: We all know you're volunteers and we're not blaming anyone. We are simply sharing opinions in the hopes that those decision makers hear our concerns and we can continue to build this community in a manner that balances the opinions of members and the needs of the Admins / IB.

lol, i deal with software development and the behavioral analysis of users towards software and web applications all day every day so I wholeheartedly understand the "lack of appreciation" for those of you who help manage the site without any monetary compensation....my suggestions are free and as always should be taken from the standpoint of "in my humble opinion".
The website already has performance issues, and that is common knowledge. The last thing you want is to "consolodate" forums, especially this forum that doesn't utilize its archival mechanism to the fullest extent (check out nasioc ... they not only do it well, but have the performance to boot).
There are right ways and wrong ways from a performance perspective, especially when it comes to raw database queries such that vbulletin does. For example:
Having a forum with one child .. bad practice .. bad performance. Why? you are performing a query for one result ... unfortunately the software doesn't know beforehand that there will be one result ... so it can't optimize its own search
Having a forum/subforum with hundreds of pages ... VERY bad practice, terrible performance.
I could go on, but like you said, it is moot at this point. If a mod/admin/owner would like to contact me for more information on how to improve this site ... please feel free.
My suggestions not only take into account the perspective of a layman, but also the perspective of performance analysis. With salt as always.

weird. i never considered it derogatory. My mom's husband used to have a car with a tag that said "MONSTA" and little Frankenstein doll by the back window because it was a monster of a car. A couple of the swaps i was reading through had bits from 3 or more cars like the Frankenstein monster had bits from 3 or more people. So i thought they are Frankensteining (tm) one car from many. If you can make that monster live its quite an accomplishment. Hence the forum title.

and saying it's unprofessional doesn't necessarily classify it as derogatory either. It's more so a question of what image you want to project for the site.
Would you create a "Frankenstein" room in your house? I might want to live on Frankenstein street, or visit the park, but that doesn't mean I want to live there.

we really will complain about anything
It begs to wonder if anything is achieved, seems members spend more time whining about nonsense.
It might not be a stretch to perceive the members of this forum spend more time worrying about trivial nonsense then the government does.

we still have a dumbass name for this subforum?
I guess worker bees didn't get the message to queen bee or (more likely) they simply don't care.
