Having your choice of different ratios is a big plus!
As is with the new halfshafts 350-400 rwhp shouldn't be a problem? I am not including drag strip launch's with sticky tires, but for autocross and tracking it should hold up. You can always put a pump on the diff if needed but diff oil temps shouldn't be that high for just doing track sessions. At least in Ga ...Az is a bit warmer🙂.
Wish we could get the mazda speed hood scoop from the old days with this kit. That could free up a little more hood clearance? Anyone thought about the newer model of the lfx? I forget the acronym but it does have about 20 more hp.
Keep up the good work!

the OE Mazda axles can handle that. So you likely won’t ever have any issue at all. What you really need is the taller ratio R&P range that the 8.8 offers.

I had not taken the time to do the conversions, but you are absolutely correct.

To throw a curve in this thread I am thinking about the LGZ engine........many questions about if it is possible. I don't know enough to speak on it yet. But am actively starting to look. Sorry for that little highjack. If I find anything about it that makes it possible I will start another thread.
This thread is too cool to highjack in any way. Sorry op.

The LGZ engine looks to be designed as a truck engine, maybe you are thinking of the LGX which powers the 2016+ Camaros? The LGX engine seems like the next logical step for Andrew at Keisler to try and develop for the swap kit.

I'm in the process of this swap and have a few questions:
  • Is the reason for removing the crank pulley only to access bolts for engine pan removal? The RX8 reluctor wheel bolts on without having to remove it, right?
  • Did you paint the engine mount towers? The silver metal things. I'm not sure if they're coated or should be painted
  • Do you know the torque spec for the Camaro oil pressure sensor and the oil pressure sensor adapter into the block? (this is for the Track Package oil filter block)
  • Did you need a shorter intake manifold bolt for the rear spot? The FWD application uses six equal length bolts, but the RWD app has one short I think. If so, do you know the PN?
I'm sure I'll have more. Thanks!

Yes, remove crank pulley for oil pan bolts. Reluctor adapter goes on with crank bolt.
Did not paint mounts, they are galvanized.
I can't remember the specs off the top of my head, but they are in the swap videos. Also located here.
Yes bolts are equal lengths, but he supplies a bushing to take up the space on the rear bolt.

Hope this helps.

I have the "older" generation of the swap with the GM Diff, old sway bar, and many other improvements Andrew has made... (If memory serves I was the 14th kit produced?)
I can not say enough about how happy I am with the kit, and Andrews attention to detail. I know this post is bit older and man some of these photos are great. Andrew has the whole process in video instructions, and everyone's gonna put their own touches on it.

If anyone is on the fence, you should pull the trigger.

Disclaimers: I do not consider the car "fast" it is "quick/nimble/predictable" I do not like the Aisin AY Transmission and am really considering building another LFX-RX8 with Andrews 10-Speed solution.

Has he published info about the 10 speed somewhere? I'm assuming he's running it off a stock ECU as there's not yet any aftermarket support for the 10 speed. It also weighs about 100lbs more than the manual trans, which is a hard pill to swallow.

I touched it 3yrs ago? The reason I say I might build another car is it's not sensible to to swap from the AY-6 to the 10L60. You have to switch from a simple single E39 PCM, to the E82 PCM/BCM/TCU buuuuuttt you can run paddles! I started with an S2 6spd car and my OE shift **** matches. I love most of my car, just not the AY-6. So being Andrew has to "back port" the LGX harness to the LFX motor, and you wind up with the cutest little TCM and a GM shifter in the car going from my "seat time track car build" to a 10spd slushbox just seems like 25% of what I put into building this car would be wasted. So building an slushbox daily would let me cage the "track" car....? Now that used car prices have crashed there are a lot of other daily sport sedans I might consider...

l spoke to the seller when it was making the rounds before BaT.

Paid him compliments owed because Andrew had implied I was “tired” for nicest example, but that’s way nicer than mine ever was.

Shout out looking for a new S2 chassis 😅

Whoooa, what happened there? Do you think you will be able to re-use most of the kit components in a new chassis?

VIR turn 5b with a crapton of compounded mistakes on my part. I was waitlisted, house flooded, got invited while the car had been sitting due to the house flood with no calipers (wilwood install in progress) so I had a week till track day to pass “mechanics” tech and I never even street drove it after making 3+ changes to the car.

The kits fine, if I’d loop/block off the oil cooler I could start it. Slides into all the gears fine, trans cross member is fine.

It stood up really well. Full credit to Andrew, dunno if I’ve told the story here but I called him asking to buy some of his MX5 parts and he sold me on building this instead.

Wouldn’t shut up about this thing called a cockpit if things got real and how MX5’s have nowhere to displace the driver.

Had no idea I’d be seeing 130+ in two sections of the track crunching my bad 5th (MV1 w/3.91 Eaton truetrac) synchro passing the flag stand wot approaching turn 1 while in HPDE-1 but that’s how things were going.

So if anyone’s got a line on a blowed up R3 I’m down for more bad choices on my part.

I just bought that car, flew down to Miami on Thursday and drove it 1100 miles home over the last few days. It is an awesome fun car. Very very solid and done right.

We came up ripped up moonshiner 28 and the tail of the dragon too. Very fun and cool car!

Since I just got the lfx swapped rx8. I'm now selling my car and the K24 turbo stuff. Check out the pics here and lmk if you are interested. Only thing I have did was pull the rotary.

You made the right choice. Believe me when I say these have power everywhere and are just so vanilla (boring) to drive. They do exactly what you tell them to do. So when I threw mine into the wall the guy following me saw I was smoking the left rear tire because I had line of sight on the bridge and assumed I was lined up to make the “straight line” through 5b, 6a, 6b and went wot I told the car to do what happened next.

- my incident was identical to this without the happy ending 😅

For me I’m just glad it was on a track and not on some backroads with my kids in the back seat. Sure paying for some tire walls sucked, losing the car isn’t great, but should I find a new shell yeah, I’m going back to face it again. I’ll have a lot of changes and full safety stuff.

Thanks for the offer of your shell but I really have my heart set on another 09-11 S2 slick top.

Now if anyone else wants to make a baby out of these two I could be persuaded to take the L on mine…
