Has anyone considered cutting the firewall a little --lots of room between dash and firewall. Maybe can get 6 inches more room that way?

FD rules state that no part of the engine may cross the vertical plane of the fire wall.

the 8 has an irregular fire wall and the vertical plane starts where the roof of the tunnel turns upward and becomes fire wall. further up from that the fire wall comes further forward again and I believe I may be able to push into that because I would still not be crossing the vertical plane at the mouth of the tunnel.

We shall see. there are lots of gray areas in rule books of course.

I say just stick the front crank trigger wheel on the main pulley and connect the trigger sensor and your power steering should work fine. Just make sure everything on that particular harness is connected.

haha thanks!

sorry about the pic quality

lots of room for the tranny, the engine sits about 1" lower than this

The rack is getting pushed into the subframe so the SF had to be cut a lot.

It will get closed back up and the rack will be mounted to the flat steel surface.
this is a very beefy design, internal reinforcement, 1/8" steel layers, 1" thick

If not for Formula D rules I would have done a tubular span.

also if you are happy to put a steering rack in front of the SF and have a shallow pan then the SF needs minimal cutting.

in theory a person could pull off a swap with no SF cuts at all but just a bit of hammer work.

I did not want my rack going forward and I wanted my engine as low as possible so I pushed the rack into the subframe.

I am going to address the possible bumpsteer issues in the future with a modified knuckle.

Longtube 4-1 headers, Walbro GSS342, motor mounts, moar steel, and some other misc. items are all on the way or about to be purchased.

I am gonna make engine mount brackets that use the stock RX8 mounts in their stock location. I will also try to make something reproducible for the tranny/PPF mount that is bolt in or close to it.

Do you think you could have left the rack and subframe unmodified if you used a dry sump pan? I have an RX8 chassis sitting in my garage and I've done two FD Ls1 swaps. So temping to go the same route with the RX8.

I'm sure the guys on www.norotors.com would love to see your build.

you are going to use both parts of the MM's?
The soft part of the MM I dont think will hold. I do have a way to turn it into a good modified poly mount. That thing is tricky on the inside. Has break a way features etc.
How are you going to run long tube headers?

not the rack, it must move. But I maybe could have left the subframe alone with the exception of the rack mounts.

thanks for the link.
