Talking ej20 boxer engine

i am planning on doing a one of a kind build using and rx8 i purchased and an EJ20 turbocharged engine
this is my first build and would like advice to aid me in completing this the rx8 i own already has a blown engine in it and i wanna do something new with the whole package
the boxer engine will help me keep a low down center of gravity boost torque horsepower and also is allot more tuneable
my course of work would be to first drop the engine with the subframe suspention and gearbox still attached and work on mounting the EJ 20 on there using an adapter plate to connect it to the rx8 gearbox and also custom build engine mounts and stand alone ecu
i dont know if ill get the guage cluster to function but on a performance standpoint it seems worth the hassle
a friend of mines is gonna do a custom map for me so i can switch between power settings from 250hp up to 400hp in 50 hp increments as the car will also be a daily driver as well as a show and track car
anyone has any advice and inputs u can thrown in to aid me in the build

AND PLEASE DONT MENTION USING A 13B OR V6 OR V8 AS I DONT WANT TO USE THEM AND THATS NOT WHAT THIS THREAD IS ABOUT

thanks for any input

Sounds like an interesting idea, but you have alot of research to do. Read ALL of the swap threads that are on here, especially the ones pertaining to using the stock gauges. Also, be prepared to be flamed without any sort of pictures or progress, people around here like to see a project started before they comment. Good luck with the build.

Another thread, that will die by the way side, and will only cause ridiculous banter, and unnecessary mod edits, until its eventually closed. Thus leading the OP to either starting a new thread thus repeating this vicious cycle or leaving the community complaining all the way about how much of a**holes we all are

Regardless it will sure to be an extravaganza, as actual build or some sort of progressional competence of this build is just a figment of the imagination. and thusly should be abandoned.

It's actually "die by the WAY side" and "FIGMENT of the imagination", but other than that you're probably pretty close to spot on. C'est la vie.

Nice choice for something unique and also low since the boxer is flat, but i don't get what you mean by more tuneable? Only know of 1 subaru into the high 7's and a handful in the 8's...there are a few 20 and 13B's in the 6's and quite a few in the 7's....

I am intrigued to know 'why' you believe Mods do ""unnecessary mod edits""?

A few of us 'Mods' are in the process of having a separate or new 'Sub Forum' so all of these RX-8 rotary engine swaps outs into bangers engine threads can be located (moved) into one section of their own....what do you think?

Unnecessary in the fact that they wouldn't happen if threads like this just didn't exist in the first place, as they just draw an undesirable amount of bashing that eventually leads to over sensitized individuals getting a bad feeling for the entire forum in general thus rendering the useful information on here ignorable as said pansies wont be back anyhow, but in the mean time will waste moderators times.

How many useless threads do mod's clean up, just so the OP still feels like we are all a bunch of a**holes and they leave anyways. thusly wasting your time cleaning up a thread that is rendered useless and resulted in a member leaving anyhow. Seems it would just be better to save everyone the time and frustration and just do away with them

On a side note I enjoy "Frankenstein" builds, but at the same point in time we all know that this thread wont even remotely resemble a build and the OP in question is over his head and out of his price range in most instances, hence the zero progressional outcome.

Logically its the only outcome possible, why delay the inevitable.

I think a new sub forum is a great idea, would reduce redundant clutter. Good idea!

You would be surprised at how little we actually do delete or modify in a thread. When it does happen, there is usually some notation that it has happened. Deleted posts usually aren't actually deleted. They just aren't publicly viewable anymore.
Posts are only edited to make them conform to site rules. Not, because we personally don't like what you have to say. If that can't be accomplished by an edit, the post (or a chain of posts) will be deleted.

Will a EJ20 even fit? They are a very wide engine

I don't know anyone who has said they're Suby was reliable and my opinion of them is very low.

So if you complete it, cool, good on ya. I appreciate the hard work.

Will I like it? No, I'll hate it with a passion.

That boxer rumble is the most annoying noise ever. But if it gets you off, that's cool

Good job. Lol. It's good to see someone around here that can take a little good natured ribbing without getting their panties in a twist. Lol

Step 1 to completing this swap is punctuation. Being able to read what is said helps.

Also, coming in sounding like you only want people to tell you how to accomplish your astronomical goal doesn't help either.

Vulcan, I have removed your previous post, don't tell another member (particularly one (Carbon8) who has contributed much longer than you) how they should conduct themselves.
Take this as your last warning.ASH8

Hay man.. good Idea.. I own Both my Rx8 and an 2006 Wrx. I too have thought about this but I dont think it will fit because the Boxer engine is too wide.. Im sure with enough work and fabrication you can get it to fit. "However its going to be a problem with the wheel wells and shock tower. Its probably going to be something you must rebuild a whole front end. At least for the transmission plate you can call Outfront Motorsports in Buena Park CA they make transmission plates all day for the EJ20 they use them in the sand rails they make. To be honest I just did quick measurements and its going to be a crap ton of work to get it to fit. And another thing. the Mazda Transmission will likely shatter with that much power in it.. I would HIGHLY suggest going with an STI 6 speed transmission If you can get that thing some how to fit...the 5 speed WRX trans is not too strong over 325 hp.. im seeing that issue now with my WRX at 361 hp. 322 TQ.. but for the most part its gonna be a PITA to fit it but im rooting for ya if you decide to do it. (From what I understand the 06+ WRX trans is a little stronger than previous versions.)

Slidin8 WHAT CHOO TALKEN BOUT BRO!?!?!?!?! lol.. The Boxer ruble sound is the ****!!! I love the sound however it is the sound of inefficiency to be honest.. From what i have come to understand over much debate and research in the matter that is the sound from the unequal length header. Changing to an equal length header helps out with turbo spool a bunch more but you loose that rumble sound. But your comment of reliability is not at all founded from working with my wrx and others .. It is Hard to kill a Subaru block. If it is properly tuned they are very reliable.. The HUGE Majority of blown Subaru engines you'll come across is due to to **** poor tuning that's for dam sure. I do fantasize about putting my EJ25 in my 8 one day but it would be WAY too much and I like seeing a RX8 with a Rotary engine as it is supposed to be..

I haven't had the best luck with Subaru's.
I've owned 4 Subaru products in the past. A 90 Loyale, 95 Justy (3cyl in-line), 00 & 05 Legacy Outback. All were purchased new except the 05. My (ex) wife had romantic notions of them after renting one in Pittsburgh and they were driven by her. The Loyale's engine died soon after we sold it to a friend. The Justy had minor problems. The 00 had the heads corrode and the car overheated. I had to get get different heads, as the old ones weren't repairable. That engine died for an unknown reason while she was driving it and traded that broken car on a used 05 (that was about 4 yrs ago).

The EJ20 is 812mm wide, the frame rails for the 8 are 715mm, that's to the vertical edge, not the lip. If you drop the EJ20 from high enough, it may fit. Good luck with your intended swap.

Al remember Phil from South Africa, he was the first to do a Renny bridge port which kept on failing, well he traded his black S1 8 on a brand new Legacy (I think) and after 3+ years (out on mileage warranty) he has spend more money on repairs (engine) than his RX-8 ever cost....(from his mouth.)
