4efte swap

looking at an engine rebuild soon.
[/B]low compression 190 bhp rx8.65k miles
running approx 55 psi on all faces front and rear rotors.
atkins kit...no problem with that.
im not really interested in engine swaps in general as we all know it will throw out the handling..a quick scout through pak wheels..a Pakistan rx8 forum confirms with we all know. .
they finish the conversion s..but have all reported the finished car being nose heavy.
just a thought i had today. ..dont all go mad..im a fan of the rotary myself. ..but its quite unreliable. ..
i do 50k miles a year..would love to drive my rx8 every day.
What about an engine from a gt starlet/glanza..4efte
weighs the same as an rx8 engine.
140 bhp ...can be boosted a bit.
extremely reliable. .small so i might fit and not throw out the handling
granted its down on bhp ...but just an idea...
thoughts. ..

why

im in Ireland. ..ls engines are nonexistent here ...cost a heap to import.
5grand ish.
but there is no end of Toyota engines going cheap...
Every make and model.....being nearly thrown away. ..Every one wants diesels here at the moment. ..they are in demand and expensive.
i could probably get a whole glanza or an altezza ...for 6-700 euros...maybe cheaper..
i couldn't give away a gen7 celica.
im probably going to rebuild the rotary ...but just an idea.
reliability & high mpgs

I thought I was on the wrong forum for a second. My previous car had 4efte parts running on a 5efe block. That was a fun car :D

... but I wouldn't recommend it for the RX8... if you're going to through the work of mounting it longitudinally, mating it to some kind of transmission and figuring out the electronics (good luck), you may as put a 3gte or something that makes it worth while.

You're talking about a metric ton of work to make any engine play nice the RX8 electronics.

I'm fitting a 1.8t 20v, you'll be the same as me in Scotland. Lots of them about. Easy to tune. My build so far is on here. Just another option, if your looking for a cheap tuneable swap.

Regards John

im very interested in your swap...
like i said my dream is a daily driver rx8..
are you far from completion john?
im just worried about throwing the handling set up out with a nose heavy lump...
as i had an rx8 before and found it the most fabulous handling car I've ever driven...id hate to loose that

I'm not that far away from finishing mine. Just need to get the time to spend on it. Ordered a few bits to finish the boost hoses today. Gearbox decided to give up on my Volvo XC90, so will need to fix that.

Build is also on Facebook https://m.facebook.com/rexyracingscotland/. Or on this site.

I'll be handing the keys to mine over to a guy that competes in hillclimes in an RX8, so he can compare the handling. As that was one of my concerns with this being a dedicated track car. If you look at my build, the engine sits behind the strut tops.

Cheers John

1.8t

ive been following your build since you started..
thats some incredible work you are doing. ..
you should keep the polar moment of inertia to a minimum with the engine still in the middle. ..keeping the handling from going sloppy.
i don't think that conversion is for me...
i don't have access to a welding plant. ..a lot of cutting.
plus i want it road legal /able to pass an nct... (doe )
and last but not least there's no way im parting with that bose stereo ...
haha.
savage work though. .you have my admiration. ..
