I'm sure many of you will sigh just by reading the title of this thread I created. I've been reading many threads posted on this forum and have searched for answers. What I did notice is anything regarding oil type, and premix is usually spread out into many different threads which makes it a little harder for new members such as myself to make a decision on oil type, and to premix or not. I've read 5w oil all the up to 10w, non synthetic and then synthetic. Also some are located in the states and others in another country. I have an idea, which is to not fill a thread up with what not to use or what to use but simply listing what year your rx8 is, mileage, what type oil you use, where you are located (to let others know what environment you drive in), and if you premix and if so what ratio do you use. Also maybe even throwing in other details you can think of. I.E: Manual 2004/ 82k / 5W-20 non synthetic/ north western texas/no premix (for now) Change it every 3k miles, run on premium gas only, temps in summer usually reach 100-110F
Bad idea? I'm thinking it would help put everything including region together in one thread

I'll bite

2004 4 port auto / previous engine had just under 40k miles / 10w-40 castrol / premix valvoline 2 cycle for the last 20k of its life / florida temps 70-100* year round / 93 octane / oil changes every 3k

Note: pulley wobbled most likely do to a bad stack. Not sure why it lasted as long as it did. I ran it because I had no choice.

New engine on the way though and I will continue my methods above.

This might be best done as a multivariate poll, but I'll bite. Staying close to your format to facilitate import to your analysis software...close but not exact just for fun.

2006/ 60k / 5W-20 genuine/ Northern Virginia/no premix
Change oil every 3k miles, run on 93 octane only, temps in summer usually reach 100

Ken x8, yeah after I started the thread I then thought maybe a poll would work better and actually give the owners something to look at visually. Wasn't sure if this was possible to achieve since I'm not yet passed my 30 days or 10 posts for being a new member.
Either way appreciate it guys, hopefully more will chime in

04 6speed, 87k, original engine, 5w40 T6 synthetic oil changes every 3k miles, NYC, I premix in the summer with Pennzoil multipurpose 2 stroke. Mainly because of the heat I use it as extra lubrication.

Yup.

Because none of those points matter sufficiently to make a difference on engine life, even if you can get a statistically significant quantity of data to even figure it out.

This is one i tried 3 years ago: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discuss...survey-202333/
Over 100 detailed responses and still not enough to make any determinations.

Good luck though

I saw it more as a "this is what people are doing " more than an attempt to discover anything new .
Worthwhile just to see what the old hands who have owned their cars a long time and done heaps of kms are doing .

And when were definite conclusions part of the culture here?

Only ones I saw via that search are edge, edge gtx from Malaysia, or gtx high mileage in eu. Monchies in the US.

So they're using black market foreign oil. I knew there was a reason I never trusted Jiffy Lube.

I never trusted jiffy lube...It was further reinforced when my gf took her Scoobie there and i discreetly spectated as they took the oil filter and compared it to the other filters in the pit shelves before they found one that "looked correct"

The actually looked for a filter that seemed right? Are you sure it was a real Jiffy Lube?
