Won't start - tried de-flooding
Hi there,
New member from Northern Ireland here.
We have a 2004 Rx8 that is pretty healthy and also has very low milleage (<40k). I have flooded it before (really easy to do if it doesn't "catch" and you automatically pump the accelerator (gas) when starting.
We have a jump-starter (takes 12H to charge, just a big battery I assume). I have charged it up overnight, then took out the Fuel fuse, after which I have started it using the key only and not touching anything else. Theory being to turn it over enough to drain excess fuel.
After this I have put the fuel fuse back in and tried it. It's oh-so-close, but still won't start.
Rinse and repeat a few times and still no luck.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this please? Would really appreciate some help

It'll take you roughly 30min to deflood the engine, IF you know what you are doing.
If not, it'll take longer. Have another car or something connect to the battery, so it won't die.
Or you can always pull/push start if you got manual.

I'm going to have to take it to the dealer - nothing worked. I suspect it needs a damn good service. Compressor ok though I think.
I wish we had never got the damn thing. I have never had a car with so many problems since about 1978 and a green Paeugot that developed a fault every other week.
It seems like the RX8 has multiple inherent failures, all the way from just about every (£200 a shot minimum) sensor to the core design of the engine. If it had any book value I would be praying for it to be stolen, but you can't give them away at present.
